TREASURE | Testing novel environmental quality measures in and around Euro-MED ports

🙂 As 2024 comes to an end, we are proud to look back on the progress and achievements of the Natural Heritage Interreg Euro-MED project. This year, our joint efforts across the Mediterranean have achieved outstanding outcomes in promoting our goals. Here are some key highlights: 📌 Enhancing collaborations among our 13 Thematic Projects. We had two in-person and 3 online meetings.  In this way, we expanded our network by engaging new collaborators from local communities, environmental organizations, and policymakers. 📌 Community Involvement and Awareness (#Solvethechallenge2024, Infodays, Summer School): Through our Infodays in 6 different countries, online campaigns, and events, we reached numerous people, showing them our commitment to preserving our Mediterranean natural heritage. We held our 1st summer school in June, bringing together students, consultants, NGOs, and practitioners from public administration to share knowledge for protecting the Mediterranean natural heritage. 📌 Policy Contributions (Annual Institutional Dialogue): Held the 2nd Annual Institutional Dialogue in Malaga, bringing together all key stakeholders to discuss and announce certain policy recommendations towards preserving the Mediterranean natural environment. This year’s event focused on marine and coastal erosion, emphasizing on the EU Natural Restoration Regulation as well as the Global Biodiversity Framework.  🙏 We want to express our sincere appreciation to our partners and communities for their invaluable support in 2024. Nella sessione mattutina ASEV ha partecipato al gruppo di lavoro per collaborare alla stesura del “Policy Statement on Restoration & Plans”. Nel pomeriggio ASEV ha presentato Treasure ai rappresentanti degli altri progetti partecipanti, con lo scopo di trovare sinergie e possibili punti di incontro e di scambio.

Are we telling ourselves noble lies about green growth and circular economy? Are we ready for terribile truths? We start the annual institutional dialogue of the Natural Heritage Mission with questions, ready to work for solutions.

📢 Kick-off of the 2nd Mission for Natural Heritage Institutional Dialogue. This morning, the 2nd Mission for Natural Heritage Institutional Dialogue officially started at the Centro Oceanográfico de Málaga, organized by the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation in partnership with key international collaborators. The opening session featured welcoming remarks from representatives of the Málaga City Council, the European Commission, and other leading organizations. The event transitioned into a high-level panel discussion focused on marine and coastal restoration policies, exploring the current context and strategies to address the #Mediterranean ’s pressing challenges. This work aligns with global restoration goals for 2030. Later in the morning, the dialogue will dive deeper into the restoration agenda through practical examples and active projects making strides in the region. ‼️ This event is an important milestone in fostering institutional dialogue and enhancing collaboration between science and policy for the conservation of the Mediterranean’s natural heritage. Marine and coastal restoration policies can only work if all the pieces of the puzzle are connected together. Sharing knowledge, facilitating communication, focusing on a new paradygm of conservation and restoration measures will help us being more sustainable and closer to an effective green transition.
