“Trauma in childhood or adulthood can result in traumatic toxic stress, which can cause maladaptive neuroplastic changes to an individual’s central nervous system resulting in poor regulation of sensory input, poor habituation to sound, poorer auditory recall, hyperacusis, auditory processing dysfunction, and increased distress from tinnitus.” - National Institutes of Health A simple hearing assessment could be a game changer for a child who seems to be struggling with following directions or listening to instructions. Can you imagine what it’s like to be getting in trouble for being disobedient when in truth you are unable to hear properly? Some children are too young to explain what’s going on with their hearing, or they think it’s normal because they don’t know any different. Stay curious. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF)'s new #ThinkBeforeYouShare campaign aims to help open a dialogue between teens, parents and professionals about the sharing of nude images. Within nine in 10 children found to own their own mobile phone by the age of 11 (Ofcom, 2014) - it’s important that parents and teachers alike, feel able to talk about image sharing, and comfortable answering young peoples' questions. Learn more about the campaign, and find advice and links to useful guidance, including the CSA Centre’s suite of resources for education professionals, on the IWF’s #ThinkBeforeYouShare website.

Important share #onlinesafety
Online sexual abuse is a serious issue for all children – especially for those with additional vulnerabilities. Young people with SEN could be at greater risk. Watch Maya’s Story with your child to help them understand the importance of telling a trusted adult - if they receive requests for 'self-generated' child sexual abuse imagery - who will help them block and report the perpetrator. Find out how you can help your child to stay safer online:https://lnkd.in/dktYmK3S.
