Millions of human beings—Image-Bearers of God—are being trafficked across the globe. The exact numbers are hard to track and are often underreported. Human trafficking can happen in any community, and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. In the United States, this crime is committed in every state across the country and most likely even in your own community. With just hours left in 2024, we are on a critical rescue mission for missing children, and we need your help! In the USA alone, there are over 460,000 missing children reported every year. That's one child every 68 seconds... the time it will take you to read this post, another child went missing. In the moments after a child goes missing, every second counts. Time is running short in 2024, as well as for every missing child that is yet to be identified and rescued. Whether a child has been groomed or appears to have left voluntarily, they are in danger and at an exponentially increased risk of human trafficking, child exploitation, rape, abuse, and even murder. Locating these children and addressing their vulnerabilities needs to be an urgent priority...This is a rescue mission. It's not about our timeline; it's about theirs. And the clock is ticking from the moment they leave home. This stark reality is why we’ve joined forces with the National Child Protection Task Force (NCPTF) over the past two years to identify, rescue, and protect missing, exploited, and trafficked children.  We are grateful to support our partner, the National Child Protection Task Force (NCPTF), as they teamed up with the New York State Missing Persons Clearinghouse and a coalition of local, state, and federal partners, as well as private sector organizations, to launch this event in Buffalo. The agencies and participants took a fresh look at the cases, which involved missing endangered children. The teams explored new leads, reviewed case notes, and leveraged technology to assist with the investigations. How Missing Children Are Vulnerable to Trafficking in America The risk of a missing child becoming trafficked is alarmingly high. A missing child is a vulnerable child who appears lonely, emotionally distressed, depressed, or even seeking attention—all characteristics a predator looks to exploit. The connection between missing children and human trafficking is strong, with missing kids being one of the highest contributors to child sex trafficking. In the United States, there are two primary ways missing kids become trafficked: 1) Online Grooming: An adult establishes a bond with a child online with the intent to exploit them sexually. Once trust is established, the child may be persuaded to leave home to meet their groomer, who eventually reveals their true intentions. 2) Street Grooming: When a child runs away from home, they often end up on the streets. These children are in immediate need of food, shelter, and emotional support. Traffickers exploit these needs by providing temporary relief only to manipulate the child, eventually forcing them into trafficking. Bryson, a beloved member of our W15H family, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a life-threatening condition, when he was five years old. While his condition brings tough physical challenges, his life is filled with joy, love, and purpose! Bryson sees the world through the eyes of faith, believing that his condition is not a mistake but an intentional part of God's purpose for his life as an image-bearer. He uses every opportunity to share the hope and joy he has found in Jesus with others, knowing that whatever circumstances we face, God is faithful and works all things for good. "One thing that doesn't change is God and His love for us," Bryson says, "If I can encourage someone going through a challenge, I'd say most importantly is, you've got to go back to where it all began—and that is from our Creator."
