How New York Grows

About us

CANY is the largest cannabis association in NY – with hundreds of members stretched across the supply chain from seed-to-sale, and in every region of the state. Through our policy and regional committees, we work to engage with the various communities of interest within the NY cannabis economy. Since our founding in 2019, we have helped draft multiple laws and countless regulations to build a cannabis industry that benefits small and midscale NYS businesses first.

The Board and Policy Committee at the Cannabis Association of New York have been hard at work drafting market solutions as we head into legislative session early next year. This is a crucial year for many existing operators, many of whom are still recovering from the painfully slow retail rollout we’ve experienced over the past two years. Our asks are not only reasonable, but are targeted to help and support smaller operators with funds and needed regulation changes, especially micro businesses. #cannabis #cannabisindustry #newyorkcannabis

**🌿💭 The Need for Cannabis Nurseries in NY 💭🌱** New York is rolling out more cannabis licenses, but can we talk about the elephant in the room? 🤔 It’s a paradox that as New York continues to roll out more cannabis licenses, we lack essential opportunities for #NY nurseries. 🤔 The absence of local cannabis nurseries is leaving our farmers in a tough spot—forced to rely on unreliable, unstable, and non-versatile genetics sourced from out of state. This situation creates a unique opportunity for innovation and growth in NY. Imagine the potential for immaculate #genetics tailored to our climate and community needs! ✨ instead of having immaculate conceptions, lmfao Quality genetics should be accessible to all our hardworking #farmers! This gap has inspired me to envision a future where we cultivate not just plants but a vibrant, diverse ecosystem of genetics tailored to our unique environment right here in New York. 🌿 We need to push for the basics! Let's advocate for the resources and support needed to cultivate a stronger, more resilient cannabis community right here in NY! Because our farmers deserve the best, robust genetics to thrive and succeed! 🌱💪 #CannabisCommunity #GeneticsMatters #NeedTheBasics #SupportLocalFarmers #NYCannabis #Innovation #AdvocateForChange #FuckHLVD #FarmsFirst #NYFarmers #SustainableAgriculture #Nursery

  • Seed-to-Sale Integration: BioTrack NY Application Programming Interface (API) now available to all licensees. A Seed-to-Sale (STS) system tracks the lifecycle of cannabis from the time a plant is planted through harvest, processing, packaging, laboratory testing and sale of completed cannabis product(s) to a consumer. To ensure regulatory compliance, all licensees are required to secure an electronic inventory tracking system that is capable of integrating with the NY STS Tracking System (BioTrack).   Additionally, permitted laboratories are required to send cannabis product laboratory testing data for licensees to BioTrack. A STS system helps the Office of Cannabis Management (Office) regulate the adult-use and medical cannabis industries by providing insight into the supply chain.   The BioTrack NY Application Programming Interface (API) is now available. Licensees must notify the Office of Cannabis Management (Office) of the inventory tracking system vendor that will integrate with the NY STS Tracking System (BioTrack) by January 17, 2025. https://lnkd.in/ewSmFjvx #newyork #cannabis

Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs at New York State Office of Cannabis Management

There was a lot to digest after yesterday’s CCB meeting; and so, selected slides are posted here. Licensing updates by the numbers: In 2024, there have been 1,311 Final Licenses handed out. 543 CAURD applicants have reached “Providional” status. Of that 543, 217 are “Final” licenses, and are either open-for-business, or moving towards operationalization. 359 applications have been rejected. There are only 2 CAURD applications still moving through review. November Queue Numbers: Currently on Queue # 1619, leaving about 400 mandatory reviews awaiting deficiency-curing. December Queue Numbers - first some basic facts: There were 5,025 applications; the Office has moved licensing staff who had been working on transitioning AUCC/AUCP’s to begin reviewing ONLY new supply-side licenses from this Queue to ensure market stability. Most AUCC/AUCP transitions are complete. The December Queue Numbers: Cultivators Tier 1 & Tier 2 - 39; Processors Type 1 - 48, Type 2 - 61, Type 3 - 52. Distributors - 27. Other important Office business was discussed by Patrick McKeage, John Kagia, Tabatha Robinson, JD, MBA, & Matthew Wilson, and included: ✅ Public Convenience & Advantage debate and approvals. ✅ Location Changes for business already granted a final license. ✅ Approval of 4 new RO’s. ✅ Why the SEE numbers appear as they do, and what is being done to reflect the reality. ✅ Board Approval of 5 letters to Municipalities who did not support retail dispensaries in their communities. ✅ Discussion of the ROD payment plan for the initial $5 million owed to OCM. ✅ OCM’s recent and yearlong Compliance efforts. ✅ Approval of an extension for CAURD licenses that were set to expire. ✅ Board action on OCM’s Administrative Court Proceedings concerning illicit cannabis enforcement. ✅ An update on where the Office is with beginning seed-to-sale. ✅ An update/reminder about the Community Grant Reinvestment Fund. #ccb #ocm #nyscannabis - Excelsior! 🥦✌🏾
