Northeast College was well represented at the New York State Chiropractic Association (NYSCA) Convention held in Roslyn, a village on Long Island, New York, this past weekend. Nineteen #NortheastBlue D.C. students led by Student NYSCA President Michael Giovannini (D.C. ’26) and immediate past SNYSCA President Abigail Riutta (D.C. ’25) attended the convention, along with faculty member Bill Lauretti, D.C, and Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs Jean-Nicolas Poirier, D.C.

It was a great turnout at the NYSCA Convention on Long Island this weekend. I presented information about Shockwave Therapy. It included a review of a few "landmark studies", treatment protocols, how to communicate treatment outcome expectations, and more. Based on many thoughtful questions, the attendees were engaged and interested in this impressive modality and how it could have a positive impact on their patients.

This October marks the 20-year anniversary of doctors of chiropractic working within the Veterans (VA) Health Administration in USA. My Alma Mater, Northeast College should be proud, as it led the way! Yes, we were the very first-ever college to have a chiropractic residency program within the VA, prompted by the Defense Authorization Act mandating chiropractic as a veterans' benefit. This is very impressive, many have no idea how involved NCHS/NYCC, Chiropractic have been! I believe there may be 19 locations, now!? Many of these developments occurred after my studies, but I did have the opportunity to incorporate the Salvation Army opportunity while in Depew, circa 1999; which surely had been part of the broader scope of work leading up to the involvement with Veterans Affairs. These are great models/examples for rehabilitation. Considering World Health Organization wants every country/nation, by 2030 to have a plan that will serve FUNCTION as a necessity of health. I see Chiropractic positioned to lead this charge for rehabilitation using the kind of affiliation demonstrated here, as example of proven models. Possibly carving out more for Canada to follow suit, and for Veterans Affairs Canada to be suited up more with Chiropractic. Ottawa with it's couple of centres is not enough. Spending thousands and thousands, millions on other less proven NMSK/MSK approaches needs better directing.
