When you go back to show gratitude to the programs and people who believed in you and shaped you into the adult you are today, some deep emotions and vivid memories emerge. I'm still on a high from our incredible University of Virginia women's tennis reunion celebrating 50 years as a program. Wow, how far we've come! From hearing from the ladies in the 1970s with a $0 budget who traveled in a beat up station wagon (thank you trailblazers!), to the 90s when my teammates and I received scholarships and free apparel/shoes from Nike, up to today attracting top talent and the #5 ranking in the nation! And of course I have to mention alumni Danielle Collins and Emma Navarro now playing professionally on the WTA Tour and achieving tournament titles and top 20 world rankings. UNREAL! We had such a great time hitting as a team, hugging, laughing, meeting older and younger players, looking at photos, remembering quirky things about our coaches and trainers, finding out everyone's career paths and whose kids play tennis, and more. Huge thanks to the Virginia Athletics Foundation, Brendan Taffe, Kevin Miller, Sara O'Leary, Gina Suarez-Malaguti, and Carlos Benatzky for making it all possible. Go Hoos! Last night, Virginia Athletics Foundation Executive Director, Kevin Miller, presented a record-setting check for over $66.9 million to Alex and Gretchen Walsh on behalf of Virginia Athletics.
