Rescuing abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico.
About us
The Sato Project is dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico. Founded in 2011 by champion amateur boxer Chrissy Beckles, The Sato Project has rescued, rehabilitated, and found loving homes for over 7,500 dogs since its inception. We are also working towards long-term change on the island through our spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccine programs.

We knew it was a good omen when, in the middle of running around doing livestreams and making thank you calls, the most beautiful rainbow emerged over our brand new forever home And a good omen it certainly was. Thanks to your generosity, we reached our original #GivingTuesday goal of $300,000. Now, with the help of a few generous donors, we've been offered $30,000 in matching funds to charter a private flight to transport over 100 rescue animals to loving adoptive homes. Our new STRETCH GOAL is to raise an additional $30,000 in matching funds by December 15th to cover the costs of this transport. We won't be charging our rescue partners a dime! Help us unlock our matching funds: https://bit.ly/3ZfYQoM We are blown away by the generosity and strength of the #SatoStrong community. Though we already knew we had a strong corner, such an ambitious fundraising goal - our largest since #GivingTuesday even began - was still a risk. But the enormous love and dedication you all have for these beautiful dogs blew that goal out of the water. We will be honored to serve the sato population of Puerto Rico with your generous contributions. As we dive into renovations, stay tuned for more ways to get involved with making our new property the most incredible Sanctuary possible (we had a lot of questions today about legacy naming opportunities - see photos below for some of the options we'll have in store, and get in touch with Harry B. if you'd like to discuss further!) Watch a special message from our friend and supporter, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, to learn more about this exciting initiative. And make sure to watch until the end for a surprise announcement! https://bit.ly/3ZE9CFV

Our annual Program Report just dropped and is available for download here: bit.ly/TSPprogramreport It gives you the inside scoop on all the accomplishments and milestones our work has brought us in the past year. Chock full of rescue stories, behind-the-scenes reporting from #OperationSato, Freedom Flight victories, and a discussion of the harsh realities of the overpopulation crisis in #PuertoRico. This year’s Program Report is one of our most important ever. It fully elucidates exactly how we arrived at the conclusion that #WeCannotRescueOurWayOutOfThis, and how our founder, Christina Beckles, has guided us in pivoting to address the fight in typical #SatoStrong fashion.

Come join our #satostrong community in Brooklyn this Saturday. Mingle with our team, volunteers, supporters and lots of cute dogs!! All funds raised will go towards our Operation Sato initiative. With the implementation of Operation Sato, The Sato Project has expanded the very definition of rescue to prioritize a one-two punch approach: adoptions alongside mass spay/neuter, TNR services, and vaccination. An expanded rescue program is our only hope to disrupt the overpopulation cycle at the root, by preventing the birth of unwanted litters and the spread of disease.

Dear Sato Supporters, These past two weekends have been truly remarkable for the Sato Project. We had a Freedom Flight transporting 102 animals to new, loving homes. We also returned to Yabucoa for our fifth Operation Sato event since the programs inception in 2023. This latest event coincided with the seven year anniversary of Hurricane Maria and where it made its first landfall, directly on Dead Dog Beach. In just three days, our dedicated teams worked tirelessly, and together we reached an incredible milestone: 309 dogs sterilized, vaccinated, and microchipped completely free of charge to their owners and TNR caretakers. This accomplishment is a testament to the unwavering support from our #SatoStrong community, countless volunteers, and our generous donors and matching partners. Ever wondered what a high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter/vaccination event for stray dogs on the ground in Puerto Rico looks like in action? As The Sato Project prepares for a big Freedom Flight this Sunday, I wanted to share something very special with you. Today we are launching a new campaign called #WeCantRescueOurWayOutOfThis - and with that campaign comes a startling, intimate look at the reality of the stray dog overpopulation crisis in #PuertoRico today. The island is now facing a public health crisis and we're on the brink of a situation we've never seen before in the history of our organization. I started rescuing in 2007, and my experience has prepared me for many challenges, but nothing like this. I made this video to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how we are addressing this issue systemically rather than by our old model of rescuing one dog at a time. Friends and followers like you have been a crucial part of our #SatoStrong community, helping us rescue thousands of dogs through Spayathons, Mission Possibles, and even in the midst of natural disasters like Hurricane Maria, Irma, and Fiona. But as the hurricanes worsen, adoptions plummet, and prices on the island surge, our backs are against the wall. We're facing a new type of storm. With 650,000 stray dogs roaming the streets and beaches of #PuertoRico, one dog at a time won't cut it. We can't rescue our way out of this. Operation Sato - a groundbreaking initiative that combines mass spay/neuter clinics with our rescue efforts is our solution. I call it our one-two punch approach. As you just watched, every patient that attends these events receives over $600+ in crucial medical services, including a surgical sterilization, vaccinations, microchip, preventatives, and testing for blood-borne illnesses. We urgently need to raise $150,000 by the end of September to continue providing these services to satos in need. Thanks to generous partners, every dollar raised this month up to $75,000 will be matched - doubling your impact. If you do anything today, watch this video, share it, post it. Please visit our website to make a matched contribution now. Your immediate action can save countless lives, and will directly reduce the suffering for more than half a million defenseless animals who cannot advocate for themselves. Thank you for giving what you can. Every dollar saves lives. Urgently and gratefully, Chrissy Beckles President & Founder The Sato Project www.thesatoproject.org https://bit.ly/3Xoxz2x
