The Great Game of Business reposted this
Try something new this year! Are you working or leading in an organization that shares vital information with all levels of staff? I am certain there are far more of you that do this, versus those that do not. KUDOS! Transparency around metrics your team can positively impact is VITAL! However, as I watched my grandson try to remind my son during a veteran’s hockey game today, he said, “Dad, aim at the net!” It reminded me that we often tell our folks what they already know. What if instead he had asked… “Dad, what are the three things you will commit to so you can score a goal in this game?” The subsequent follow up would have gone from “Thanks buddy!” To, “hmm, let me think about that!” This inquiry/communication process creates active thinking and gets our brain cylinders firing. It’s the idea of thinking about “what - if” that helps us problem solve and exceed expectations. Many of my clients had their best year ever in 2025. One in particular, PurAqua Products, Inc., was even voted one of the best places to work in South Carolina! I can tell you this didn’t come from people being told what to do. Instead, they shared forecasted operational and financial metrics weekly, huddled to discuss ideas, and then asked the team what can you do in the next week to drive our desired outcomes? That is the secret sauce. Plain and simple. You need to appeal to the highest level of thinking. It is what makes people want to stay and grow with your organization! So, my question to you all is… what information will you share and how will you energize your teams to create positive outcomes and build an ownership culture?
