Today, we honor the incredible legacy of President Jimmy Carter, a true champion of equality and justice. As governor of Georgia and President of the United States, he was a steadfast advocate for women’s rights, judicial reform, and the fair treatment of all people. President Carter’s commitment to gender equality was groundbreaking. In 1977, he became only the third U.S. president to declare Women’s Day proclamations and later issued the first presidential proclamation for Women's History Week in 1980. His legacy includes appointing women judges to the federal bench and encouraging First Lady Rosalynn Carter to champion mental health awareness, breaking barriers for women leaders in government. Today, we remember his compassion and leadership as a guiding light in the fight for equality. Thank you, President Carter, for being a catalyst for change. 💜
