Bahrain Airport Company announced that Bahrain International Airport has become the first airport in the world to receive the Environmental Assessment Certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
This groundbreaking achievement highlights Bahrain International Airport’s innovative approach to environmental sustainability and responsible operations. The certification was presented to Mohamed Yousif Al-Binfalah, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company, by Kamil Al-Awadi, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, at the GFG stand during the second day of the Bahrain International Airshow, which took place from November 13 to 15 at the Sakhir Airbase under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Representatives from the Health and Safety Department at Bahrain Airport Company also attended the ceremony.
The IEnvA program, created by IATA more than a decade ago, has been effective in enhancing the environmental performance of airlines in line with the ISO 14001 standard. In July 2022, IATA expanded the program to include airports and ground handling companies, recognizing their critical role in reducing the environmental footprint of the aviation industry.
This milestone inspires a call to action for airports worldwide to adopt sustainable practices, helping to create a greener, more eco-friendly future for aviation. 🌍✈️
