It is official! Today Tailwind launched the Adaptation & Resilience Innovation Playbook! 📜 One of the topics we cover in the Playbook is where entrepreneurship and innovation are most needed within the adaptation space. For example, we cover: 💫 Bright Spots - Places where companies are forming and there is high market demand but more innovation and investment are needed 💎 Hidden Gems - Places where fewer solutions exist but demand is high and company formation and investment are an imperative 👀 Blind spots - Places where very few solutions exist, market demand is latent (but present!) and more innovation and investment are sorely needed Check out our Innovation Roadmap and the rest of the Playbook's findings on our website at: https://lnkd.in/e3asPnsv Special thanks to Autodesk Foundation Battelle Breakthrough Energy Fellows Lyda Hill Philanthropies and Shockwave Foundation for your support and to Vibrant Data Labs Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) and Fors Marsh for your partnership!

Welcome to the world Insurance for Good! We're excited to collaborate with you on #insuretech and #insuranceinnovation 💪
Risks are growing. Unprecedented is the new normal. Insurance as we know it is under stress. While the problems are clear, implementing new approaches of risk transfer to meet the current and future moment is not easy. That’s why we’re launching Insurance for Good--a hub for the growing community of practice in the United States working on harnessing insurance for the common good. Founded by Carolyn Kousky, Acting Chief Economist at EDF, and supported by partner organizations like Environmental Defense Fund and SBP, along with cross-disciplinary experts, we believe a new way forward is possible. Insurance for Good supports communities and the public sector in reimagining insurance to meet social and environmental goals. We curate shared resources, deliver capacity-building programs, incubate open-source and innovative risk transfer approaches, and advocate for improved policy and regulation. Our aim is action. Follow us and be one of the first to join our community at https://lnkd.in/etcVASXq Thanks to our incredible founding board Helen Wiley, Jonathan Gonzalez, Carlos Martín, and Emily Grover-Kopec and to our amazing senior advisor, Kayla (Drozd) Calkins. Thanks to Heatmap News for covering us in their piece published today about the imperative of developing and financing climate adaptation solutions in the face of rapidly intensifying climate hazards 🌀 #helene #milton The reality remains that the future of 🏥 healthcare, 🚰 water, 🥦 food, 🔌 energy, and 🏠 shelter will be defined by how businesses and the government envision and fund a network of justly deployed climate adaptation solutions. We look forward to seeing everyone out there today for another exciting day of #ClimateWeekNYC! Take a look 👀 at what our Co-Founder & Managing Partner Emilie Mazzacurati was up to yesterday with FEMA 👇
🌪️ Not everyday that you see FEMA at a sustainable investing event! Thankfully, it was not to respond to a disaster, but to talk about the role FEMA plays in risk reduction and resilience, at an event hosted by CleanTechIQ. 🇺🇸 I was interviewing Victoria Salinas, Deputy-Administrator for Resilience, about opportunities for private investors to invest in adaptation and resilience alongside and via FEMA programs. Key takeaways: 🏦 Victoria emphasized the need for more capital going towards adaptation and resilience. From revolving loans to public-private partnerships for infrastructure and resilience bonds, there are needs and opportunities across the capital stack. 🏘️ One of FEMA’ focus is community insurability: increasing coverage and making sure communities stay insurable. That includes the recent reform of the National Flood Insurance Program to make sure premiums reflect the risk, but also support to make sure the most vulnerable households can afford insurance. 🪸 Role of technology innovation: Victoria shared a great example of how FEMA-funded coral reef restoration in Puerto Rico was being accelerated by a startup that grows heat-resistant coral reefs. If you want to learn more about adaptation finance and how your organization can invest in adaptation and resilience, reach out to Tailwind’s advisory team, and stay tuned for our upcoming Adaptation Finance Primer in partnership with Climate Resilience for All.
