#YearInReview: 2024 has been a year of innovation, impact, and growth for TAAF. We’ve been on the ground floor of supporting new initiatives, launched first-of-their kind studies, and invested in organizations and people making meaningful change. We’ve also taken time to listen and learn from deep conversations with community leaders, grantees, partners, and others to better serve our community. And we remain steadfast in our mission to advocate for the safety, belonging and prosperity for all AANHPIs not just this year, but every year. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to working together to ensure a brighter future for the AANHPI community. Our shared work is just beginning.

Today, TAAF revealed the eye-opening results of our new study—Beyond the Surface: Understanding Mental Health Among AANHPI Youth—one of the most comprehensive studies of its kind. For too long, AANHPIs have largely been left out of the conversation on mental health in America. TAAF believes it is time to break through pervasive stereotypes about the perceived wellness of our community to begin addressing the historic underinvestment and lack of attention to the challenges of our young people. We must begin an open, constructive dialogue about the unique struggles and pressures AANHPI youth face so that we can find a path toward healing—together. “Moana 2” made history as the first Disney animated feature to release an Indigenous-language version alongside its English counterpart. Its premiere was accompanied by “Moana 2 Reo Māori,” a special release in New Zealand, featuring voiceovers in the indigenous Polynesian language. The original “Moana” was also translated into Māori, and both the first and second incorporate Tairāwhiti, which is one of several Māori dialects. “This is the full-circle moment we’ve been working toward — our dream to see te reo Māori normalized on cinema screens alongside English,” Matewa Media producers Chelsea Winstanley and Mia Henry-Teirney said.
