Why does our National Science Foundation (NSF) INCLUDES Alliance focus on building and amplifying the capacity of pre-college STEM programs in efforts to broaden participation in post-secondary STEM? Pre-College Programs include the following assets to students, families, and the larger community: ✏️ Capacity to Fill Equity Gaps ✏️ Unique Perspectives with staff representing various backgrounds, STEM journeys, and areas of expertise ✏️ Provide robust, experiential STEM learning opportunities ✏️ Expose students to STEM topics beyond those of a traditional classroom ✏️ Create pathways for further study through a foundation of transferrable skills, habits, and knowledge ✏️ Connect to relevant STEM programs and Higher Ed institutions ✏️ Strengthen broader impact opportunities like current research and the larger STEM community ✏️ Create mentorship opportunities Meet our National Network of programs: https://lnkd.in/et2SzxWs The NSF Eddie Bernice Johnson INCLUDES National Network

"There are not very opportunities to do research as a high-schooler." Curiosity, solving problems, understanding how the world works - these are just some of the reasons students have been drawn to participate in USC Viterbi School of Engineering's Summer High School Intensive in Next Generation Engineering (SHINE). "SHINE is a big reason I got accepted into all of the colleges I did. It showed that I had passion and actually wanted to do something in the world." Pre-college programs, like SHINE, are engaging students in high-quality STEM learning that is preparing them for careers in STEM. Yet, so many many of these experiences go unnoticed in the college admissions process. STEM PUSH is working to change that.
