Curiosity, solving problems, understanding how the world works - these are just some of the reasons students have been drawn to participate in USC Viterbi School of Engineering's Summer High School Intensive in Next Generation Engineering (SHINE). "SHINE is a big reason I got accepted into all of the colleges I did. It showed that I had passion and actually wanted to do something in the world." Pre-college programs, like SHINE, are engaging students in high-quality STEM learning that is preparing them for careers in STEM. Yet, so many many of these experiences go unnoticed in the college admissions process. STEM PUSH is working to change that. The Native American Science and Engineering Program (NASEP) at Arizona State University gives high school students a comprehensive understanding of a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) fields. The year-long program connects students with academic professionals and industry representatives from STEM-related interests, gives one-on-one college coaching, facilitates interactive workshops, and family events to effectively prepare students for the college admissions process.
