In the spring, Stamford Health began a transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) program with MitraClip, a minimially invasive transcatheter option for patients with mitral regurgitation at elevated surgical risk. We have quickly become one of the fastest growing sites in Connecticut! We are proud to continue to offer the most advanced technology. Stamford Health has been designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence® (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®). We are the first imaging center in Fairfield County to receive this important designation which applies to our imaging provided at Stamford Hospital, Tully Health Center, Darien Imaging Center, Greenwich Imaging Center, and Wilton Imaging Center. The DICOE program, which represents the pinnacle of medical imaging care, is an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize best-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. This includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes. The DICOE designation recognizes excellence at multiple levels — including the professional staff, the technology, and the policies and procedures the organization follows — and superior patient care.

Our Heart & Vascular Institute and Neurosciences teams have been working to raise awareness of certain health conditions (and how to provide immediate support) with local EMS members. Here are a few photos from a talk with Greenwich EMS and Dr. Ed Lin, a cardiologist, about left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and how to manage patients with this condition. Many EMS members were present and it was a great discussion!

The Structural Heart Team at Stamford Hospital in affiliation with Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Cardiac Surgery Team implanted the first Abbott Navitor transcatheter aortic valve in the state of Connecticut. The Navitor valve is approved for high risk patients with aortic stenosis and offers several enhanced benefits. Stamford Health is proud to offer the latest technologies for our patients - and the Navitor is just that! With a multitude of transcatheter options, we're able to individualize the choice of valve based on the patient’s needs for the best outcomes.

We're proud to share that we're now using new technology that helps our Heart & Vascular Institute doctors identify the initial signs of coronary artery disease in patients receiving CT scans. Dr. David Hsi, chief of cardiology and institute co-director, said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved algorithm can provide doctors with an accurate data analysis within seconds. Congratulations to our facilities team, architects and designers at CannonDesign, and our Maternity & NICU Units for receiving a silver award in the remodel/renovation competition from the Healthcare Design Showcase, Convention, and Expo. The panel of jurors includes health care architects, interior designers, owners, and consultants who scored projects based on innovation, aesthetics, experience and operating performance. The Healthcare Design Showcase book says: “The projects that earn top honors have one thing in common: Raising the bar in healthcare design.” Congratulations to everyone involved in these successful renovations!
