NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Parker Solar Probe, equipped with an imager from SRI, performed the closest flyby yet of our Sun this week at 3.8 million miles above the surface! The probe, which is withstanding relentless radiation and temperatures hot enough to melt steel, is equipped with an SRI-built CMOS imager. The images captured will help to better understand the Sun and its impact on our solar system. Learn more about our work in space at www.sri.com/space Photo: NASA/Johns Hopkins APL/Ben Smith

The Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) has collaborated with SRI's Center for Innovation, Strategy, and Policy (CISP) and WaterStart to delve into the pressing issue of intertwining economic growth and water resource management. CISP and WaterStart released a recommendations report that provides useful insights for local and state leaders to support sustainable, vibrant communities, especially in water-scarce states like those in the Southwest United States and across the world. We're making groundbreaking developments in modern cryptography by delivering high-assurance, error-free, fast, and secure zero-knowledge proof protocols. This advancement could revolutionize online financial transactions and high-value information exchanges. “What sets our work apart is that we developed mathematically verified implementations of these cryptographic protocols while matching the speed of unverified approaches,” says Vitor Pereira, an advanced computer scientist in SRI’s Computer Science Laboratory. Almost 20 years ago, SRI built the Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR) for the National Science Foundation (NSF), the first system to provide scientists with the technology necessary to collect critical data and study global climate trends from year to year. Scientists can now investigate the energy and momentum transfer among all layers of the Earth’s upper atmosphere, accessing critical data on the complex physical processes that comprise the sun, magnetosphere, and ionosphere. As part of the ARPA-E PRIME-Fuel project, SRI and the University of Houston are working to create a system that turns CO2 into methanol— helping fuel America's decarbonization efforts. The technology could significantly transform sustainable fuel production, decarbonize several sectors, and help the U.S. reach its climate goals. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3VTRsOb

SRI is spearheading a way for autonomous systems, such as self-driving vehicles and drones, to effectively operate in evolving and challenging environments, from city streets to war zones. Under Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)'s Transfer from Imprecise and Abstract Models to Autonomous Technologies (TIAMAT) program, we'll leverage our novel learning-based paradigm, FLASH, to bridge the simulation-to-real gap and replace data-hungry learning methods to help drones and self-driving vehicles adapt with even the most dynamic and unfamiliar environments.
