The South Fulton CID is helping make freight greener along I-85! This year, the Atlanta Regional Commission awarded us a $320,000 Freight Cluster Grant to make freight sustainable in Union City, Palmetto, City of Fairburn, and City of South Fulton. Starting in 2025, the South Fulton CID will study the local freight network to: 🌏 Reduce greenhouse gases: using more alternative fuels, electric vehicles. 🚚 Make freight more efficient: finding better routes for trucks, supporting intermodal transportation. 📦 Support the supply chain: reducing idling time for trucks, reusing and recycling products, and improving worker conditions 🌳 Improve site sustainability: adding green roofs, water recycling, solar power, etc. 🚶♂️➡️ Plan district-wide improvements: increasing walking paths, green space, and transport options for workers and residents. About us
The South Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) is a self-taxing district formed by the area's property owners to advance business and community development. Logistics activity within the South Fulton area is ramping up, and state and regional investments need to keep pace. For more than two decades, the commercial property owners of the South Fulton Community Improvement District (CID) have led a multi-prong strategy to direct these investments to the district.

SR 74/I-85 construction is paused for bats! 🦇 Yes, you read that right. When Georgia Department of Transportation started clearing vegetation this week, crews found one of the area's 2 protected species, the Tri-Colored Bat (https://lnkd.in/e82rxbzd). Federal and state law dictates construction must stop until March 2025, when the bats wake up from hibernation. We'll keep you posted when work starts. For more info (and the 1 other protected species in the area), check out GDOT's press release.

🚨 The I-85/SR 74 overhaul begins! 🚨 Georgia Department of Transportation begins clearing vegetation this month to start work on the new, improved SR 74/I-85 ramps, bridges, and lanes. You might see increased traffic through the intersection as crews and equipment move in--but the finished work (expected fall 2027) will get everyone through smoothly. Please drive carefully through the intersection as work begins! If you'd like to avoid any traffic jams, consider using MARTA Route 188 (https://lnkd.in/eh5PEtQZ) or utilizing the Fairburn Park & Ride (https://lnkd.in/eTH3YzpD).

Have you seen MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority)'s new bus route plan? 🗺️ : https://lnkd.in/g35q3yMV Route updates include extending Route 188 (https://lnkd.in/eHKwntNs) through Fairburn and more frequent stops at the College Park station! Share your thoughts with MARTA at one of their virtual meetings on Dec. 12 and 17.
MARTA is advancing its NextGen Bus Network, a strategic redesign of MARTA bus routes to create a smarter, faster, and better system to serve the evolving needs of the region. Beginning in December, and continuing through early February 2025, MARTA will host a series of virtual and in-person meetings to gather feedback about the proposed bus network changes. Past the SR 74 interchange, South Fulton CID is still working hard on reducing traffic on I-85. Right now, we're working with the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to plan another interchange at Gullatt Road. This'll help South Fulton commuters and residents travel through the area, help reduce crashes, and lead into another CID project, repaving and improving Gullatt Road. Get updates on the progress we've made so far and our next steps towards a new interchange on our blog: https://lnkd.in/g2wiKFfW

The South Fulton CID is improving traffic all along Senoia Road. That's why they funded the design of Renaissance Parkway, the access road parallel to Senoia between the Fairburn Park and Ride and Harris Road. The CID's here for the whole community, so of course, we didn't stop with asphalt! Renaissance Parkway boasts sidewalks on both roadsides, gutters, a storm drain system, and streetlights. See below for an aerial view of the access road. The access road provides an extra option for residents and workers in the area to turn off into their home or workplace, plus a quick entry into the Fairburn Park & Ride for commuters on Senoia Road. Keep the road in mind when construction starts on SR 74/I-85—carpooling or taking MARTA route 188 into Atlanta will save you some major time and headache.

Still waiting to merge? The South Fulton CID (SFCID) is investing in almost half a mile of road improvements, better bridges, and new sidewalks at the SR 74/I-85 interchange. If you've taken I-85 north from Fairburn lately, you'll know: the traffic is piling up. With one of the largest southeastern logistics corridors right next door, the existing roads and sidewalks simply can't support all of South Fulton's commuters and visitors. That's why the South Fulton CID is bringing: - A partial clover leaf interchange (shown below), with loop ramps connecting drivers to I-85 North and South. - Additional lanes for SR 74 in both directions. - 5-foot sidewalks and 4-foot bicycle lanes on SR 74 in both directions. - An updated single bridge with 30-foot shoulders. Still in its final design, the project is scheduled to start construction this year!

South Fulton CID aren't the only ones investing in the area! The City of South Fulton is planning for its growing population with pedestrian safety improvements, community beautification, and more exciting updates on the drawing board.
The City of South Fulton City Council has unanimously approved a $257,488,718 budget for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25), marking the largest financial investment in the city's seven-year history. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e7YZQcVH #CityofSouthFulton #COSF #acityontherise #sofuleads
