What if you had a place in your city where you could... ✨ Meet your neighbors (and become best friends with them, like I did) ✨ Talk about the future you want for yourself and your loved ones ✨ Actually CREATE IT together with meaningful yet bite-sized actions This is what we're dreaming of at Soapbox Project, and this dream came true last Tuesday at our *first Soapbox Seattle pop-up*. We played Climate Crumble (basically giant jenga with a sustainability twist). We cozied up in the corner and had deep conversations. We ate some DELICIOUS and nourishing farm-to-table food. We learned about loneliness and how big of a problem it is. We sent 10 letters to city council, brainstormed 6 neighborhood grants, and made 15 Better World Bingo Boards. 💕 Most importantly, we put smiles on 100% of faces (I counted). EVERY TUESDAY in March and April, we're hosting Soapbox Seattle as a pop-up community space. The last one was sold out, and tomorrow's has 7 spots left. The theme is creating safe streets + walkable cities, and I'm beyond excited! I will pop the link in the comments. For now, I'm curious to know: what social spaces are YOU dreaming of in your city? Chime in if you would love a Soapbox pop-up in your area!

The fantasy novels are right: magic does take a toll ✨ I am EXHAUSTED but so profoundly changed from yesterday's Soapbox Seattle launch. I have not enough brain cells to string thoughts together, so I'll start with gratitude. (And the excitement of getting to do this EVERY Tuesday in March and April.) I'm grateful for this beautiful corner of the Earth we're on in the Pacific Northwest. Land that's been stewarded for generations by (and stolen from) the Coast Salish people. I'm grateful for our cozy venue, Lazy Cow Bakery, which exists as a bakery SO THAT it can exist as a space for social change. It works in service of Seattle's Latinx community, and I'm honored to get to borrow it for the next two months for climate justice work. I'm grateful for a stellar team of staff and volunteers that exemplify the COURAGE AND JOY we talk about day in and day out at Soapbox Project. Kayla Hidayat whom I hired last year -- our very first Soapbox hire -- came in from Berkeley to help set up our launch. And I could not, would not have done it without her. We *literally* jumped for joy at the end of the event (highly recommend). Heather S. inspired the vision for our photobooth and various decor. We had an incredible scheming and dreaming session at Seattle ReCreative (if you came yesterday, ALL our decorations were secondhand!) Tessa passed out flyers and dedicated so much of her brain to the guest experience... and a carpet. Anna Schmidt and Xavaar Quaranto brought joy and silliness to our craft day. Silvia Wagner contributed a gorgeous mirror to our cozy space (Silvia, I know you haven't seen it yet in the space, but it looks AWESOME). Andrea and Ben helped with set up and clean up and vibes. Sundar volunteered to photograph the event. Dustin, the chef at Art of the Table in Seattle, donated food and his time. If I forgot you, tag yourself because I only have half a brain cell left, but so much more gratitude to give. And I am SOOOOOOO beyond grateful to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who attended last night. We played Jenga. We laughed about aliens. We ate the best soup. We cozied up for storytime about loneliness. We made fun of me for being short (sad). And we sent 10+ letters to city council, schemed 6 ideas for neighborhood grants, made 15 Better World Bingo Boards, and put smiles on 33 faces. How would your life be different if climate change wasn't about doom and gloom? What if it was unabashed JOY?!??! I'll see y'all next Tuesday and every Tuesday until the end of April. This is so beyond special, and I'M SO GRATEFUL to share this space with you!! How do we have difficult conversations with loved ones? I recently had the chance to present our work from Beaker in collaboration with Soapbox Project! We explored non-violent communication — how we talk with our communities with different perspectives and come away finding space for mutual understanding. It’s hard feeling like your voice doesn’t matter, but its also not helpful to be stuck in an echo-chamber. Practice moving away from assumptions and moving towards compassion in discussions to create understanding and connection. #Values #Gap #Relationship #Peers #Family #Compassion #Survey #Action

Community for Change Agents 👯♀️ | Impact Leaders' Secret Weapon 💥 | Policy, Sustainability + Storytelling Strategist 🎯 | Host of the Women Changing the World Podcast 🎧

If you haven't already met Nivi Achanta, allow me to put her *magic* and *sunshine* on your radar ☀ . Nivi is the founder of Soapbox Project, a social enterprise that helps busy professionals conquer their climate anxiety. Her work combines personal responsibility, collective action, and FUN! Nivi inspires me for so many reasons: 📰 She has been featured by the The New York Times, The Washington Post, Grist, and more for her community work, sustainable wedding celebration, and engagement bike 🚲 . 🌍 Before founding Soapbox Project, Nivi worked with companies like Accenture, Google, Facebook, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she specialized in employee-driven impact. 💥 Nivi also supercharges #community strategy for impact-aligned organizations, specifically focused on #genderequality and #climate justice. 📚 When she's not working on social change, she is reading 100+ books a year, baking sourdough, and karaoke-ing with friends. 🎶 We recently had the joy + privilege of hosting her inside Girls Club Collective for a Rage Room experience. Nivi created space for our members to share what’s going on beneath the surface of our work. We learned our Listener Archetypes, and together, we built a protected hourlong container where each of us could express the frustration, anxiety, and grief that comes with working on existentially threatening challenges. We laughed, we cried, we raged, and we witnessed each other. I left our virtual hour together feeling so many feelings - love, frustration, compassion, and most of all, HOPE. Nivi is a brilliant space holder, and I feel so so grateful to have her in my world. If you're in the Seattle area, Nivi is doing some really cool IRL pop-up experiences this spring. And wherever you are, you can book her for an interactive "action hour" at your workplace: https://lnkd.in/gKVNckBB I truly can't recommend collaborating with Nivi enough, and I wanted to shout from the rooftops about her amazingness!
