As the year is coming to an end, we are thrilled to share a recap of our 2024 projects! Throughout the year, we: - Commissioned a video to explain Sillerman's role within the field. - Completed a two-year research project on all of the key components of social justice philanthropy. - Facilitated a number of giving circles through which young people decided where grant dollars would be disseminated. - Did a deep dive on philanthropy's role to fight the censorship movement. The "Beating Back the Bans: How Can Philanthropy Fight the Censorship Movement?" presentation and infographic provide funders with current information about the state of book bans and K-12 curriculum censorship and the non-profit activity fighting against this trend. "To rectify this problem, grant makers should embrace what the Ford Foundation calls “disability-inclusive” grantmaking. That means incorporating disability into existing funding areas by intentionally including people with disabilities in the “design, activities, budget and/or implementation” of their programs. Such an approach is likely to produce far better results for all the populations grant makers care about — not just those with disabilities." Just as a body has a heart, arms, toes, and a spleen, each of which is wildly different from the next, so society is made up of radically diverse components that form a community. And while we are all different, our fates are linked. As Eugene Debs put it: “While there is a lower class, I am in it, while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”
