RSP’s work on the Southdale Center Herberger’s/1956 Donaldson’s Anchor Conversion has been honored with the Minnesota Shopping Center Association (MSCA) Starr Award for Innovation. This project offered a unique opportunity to reimagine a 1956 architectural landmark, transforming it into a dynamic, multi-tenant space while preserving its historical character. RSP’s design adapted the original Donaldson’s corner entry, added new window openings to introduce natural light, and integrated rooftop patios that enhance the building’s functionality and community connection. Anchored by Kowalski’s Grocery, People’s Organic, and Putt Shack, this reimagined space demonstrates how thoughtful design can honor history while paving the way for future innovation. Thank you to the project team, including CoBeck Construction Co., LLC, Simon Property Group, Ayres Associates, Kimley-Horn, and ERA Structural Engineering, for their collaboration in bringing this vision to life. #RetailTransformation #RetailDesign #DesignThatWorks
