The annual defense policy bill passed today in the U.S. Senate prohibits the military health insurance program from covering gender-affirming care for youth. Efforts to ban medically-necessary care for transgender people are sadly in full swing. The fear-mongering and misinformation we saw in the 2024 election have made targeting trans people an acceptable, and even popular, policy position. This is shameful. Gender-affirming care is medically-necessary care backed by scientific and medical evidence. It is safe and closely monitored by actual healthcare providers. Both Colorado senators voted for the bill, but Representatives Diana DeGette, Joe Neguse and Brittany Pettersen voted against the bill in the House. If these three are your representatives, call or email to thank them for supporting the trans community. https://lnkd.in/gFtuGayG

In 1975, Clela Rorex, a trailblazing ally and friend to RMEQ, issued the nation’s first same-sex marriage licenses at the Boulder County Courthouse. This designation will protect her legacy. “I wish I could pick up the phone and call Clela right now,” said Mardi Moore, chief executive officer of RMEQ. “When I heard the news, my heart took an extra beat, caused by happiness and pride. This announcement couldn’t be more timely, as we approach the 50th anniversary of when she issued these marriage licenses.” https://lnkd.in/g-BWRiYY

The Boulder County Courthouse has officially been designated as a National Historic Landmark! In 1975, Clela Rorex, a trailblazing ally and friend to RMEQ, issued the nation’s first same-sex marriage licenses at the courthouse. This designation secures Clela's legacy and the history of the LGBTQ+ movement for future generations. RMEQ is proud of our work with local and national officials to ensure the significance of the courthouse to the LGBTQ community would not be forgotten. https://lnkd.in/g3-CEqfD

RMEQ identified many inequities in the vaccine rollout during COVID-19. We worked to address them then, and we continue to build on that work. Last week, we were proud to host Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, MPHI, and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as we continue to expand this vital work. Colorado LGBTQ+ advocacy groups and health care providers are bracing for what a second administration under President-elect Donald Trump could mean for transgender people, and they are pledging to strengthen existing community support systems. Mardi Moore: "We survived the first round — which felt surprising to a lot of us — and we know we can survive this second round. We’re smarter going into it."
