We’re excited to share that RNW Media is now a proud member of the Inclusive AI Consortium, joining industry leaders like Google, IKEA Foundation, Adobe, Etsy, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and The University of Edinburgh, among others! The Inclusive AI Consortium is a global initiative led by Professor Payal Arora (Utrecht University) and Laura Herman (Adobe). It unites changemakers, tech experts, AI ethicists, civic actors, and digital anthropologists to co-create and deploy AI technologies that prioritize social justice and planetary wellbeing. 🤔 Why Inclusive AI Matters AI systems today often reflect WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) biases, excluding diverse voices, especially from the Global South, home to 90% of the world's youth and the majority of digital users. This disparity overlooks their perspectives in shaping AI's future. To address this, the Consortium adopts a people- and planet-centered approach, fostering equitable digital transformation through research and community-driven projects. 🎙️ RNW Media’s Role As the only international media development member, RNW Media brings its expertise in building trusted, independent digital media platforms that champion human rights. Since 2023, we’ve been integrating AI into our strategy, focusing on ethical use in content creation, curation, moderation, distribution, and audience engagement. 🗓️ Highlights of Our AI Initiatives - At the Digital Media Impact Summit, we united media professionals and activists from 31+ countries to explore AI’s role in digital media, human rights, and social change. - A survey of 124 partners revealed 84% use AI for content creation, image analysis, and youth engagement on sensitive topics. These insights will be featured in December's UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) report. - We launched AI 101 and communication masterclasses, training organizations like Digital Europe, Save the Children, and Rutgers. 🚀 What’s Next? 1) Expand research collaborations with leading academic institutions to explore AI’s impact on youth and marginalized communities. 2) Develop tools and guidelines to help partners integrate ethical AI practices and combat harmful narratives. 3) Showcase insights and innovations at global platforms like RightsCon 2024 to advocate for equitable digital transformation. Stay tuned as we unveil more about these exciting initiatives and continue working toward a fairer, more inclusive digital future! 🌐💡 #InclusiveAI #DigitalMedia #AIForGood #MediaSustainability

THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW how AI is made possible for us! - After reading a news article last year that told the story of Mophat Okinyi and other data cleaners in Kenya, I was compelled to reach out to him myself. - We had an endearing, albeit intense, conversation that led to us becoming fast friends and a deep supporter of the work that he is spearheading at Techworker Community Africa (TCA). 👈🏽 This organization brings awareness and positive action (like training and mental health support) for African techworkers. - Mophat will be speaking at RightsCon 2025! In a session titled "The Human Sweat That Waters AI" - This session will dive into the critical issues affecting data workers, unpacking the exploitation, challenges, and working conditions they face as the backbone of AI development. - The session is coordinated by Adio-Adet Dinika, Ph.D, with an incredible panel featuring Richard Mathenge, James Oyange, Njoki N and Mophat Okinyi. - "RightsCon is an amazing platform to engage with global voices advocating for human rights in the digital age. - I want to STRONGLY encourage you to financially support the work of Techworker Community Africa ( 1 USD = 129 Kenyan Shillings). No amount is insignificant. - If you are heading to Taipei for RightsCon 2025, let me know in the comments. If you are going to participate virtually, let me know in the comments. - Check the comment section for a link to donate to TCA. - Let's amplify the voices of those powering AI behind the scenes. - #voice #voiceai #ai #ethics #data #DataWorkers #HumanRights #FairWork #RightsCon2025 #flexmindbodyvoice
