It's an opportunity to meet incredibly smart people, ask questions, and share those insights in a world that is changing at lightning speed. As Reuters NEXT puts it: "Questioning Today To Build A Better Tomorrow." It was a tremendous first day here at the #ReutersNEXT Leadership Summit. "So, how good is Donald Trump for your business?" That was my opening question to Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon at the Reuters NEXT conference this week. His response? "If you create an environment that's a high growth environment, with lower regulatory expectations, you probably have an environment that's good for asset prices and is good for transactional activity. Those things are good for Goldman Sachs' business." His sentiments were echoed by a parade of Wall Street executives.

Another fantastic day at Reuters NEXT. Brian Kernohan, Chief Sustainability Officer of Manulife Investment Management, Leagh Turner, CEO of Coupa Software and Jeff Gustavson, VP of Lower Carbon Energies at Chevron all brought insight and enthusiasm to their fireside chats. Brian says if we think of "natural capital" in terms of Earth’s balance sheet, it's clear our liabilities outweigh our assets. The bottom line is we must do more to take care of nature...putting more in than we take out. Leagh believes in the guiding principle that none of us is as smart as all of us. She says when data is gathered ethically, responsibly, and with the trust of customers, it can be used as a force for good. And while chatting ahead of taking the stage, Jeff and I realized we live just a few blocks from each other in Houston. While acknowledging the challenges of lowering the carbon footprint are immense, he is encouraged and optimistic about the future.
