PROWL is an industrial design studio helping brands create a regenerative future.
About us
We begin with the end.™ PROWL is an industrial design studio helping brands create a regenerative future. We take a research-based, materials-centered, and collaborative approach in order to craft inspiring outcomes at scale that employ materials, processes, and technology in measurable and more responsible ways. Our vision of a regenerative future is one where human societies and natural ecosystems do not just endure but thrive, improving and restoring themselves over time. Through our holistic design approach, we account for the full lifecycle — first beginning with the end — to ensure we hold the well-being of both people and planet at equal value. To realize our regenerative design vision, we involve experts at points beyond the traditional scope, such as upstream with material scientists and downstream to recycling and composting facilities. We have also crafted guiding principles in order to hold ourselves accountable to our mission throughout each and every project. Because of our concentrated focus to create a regenerative future with our clients, partners, and collaborators, our outcomes can take many forms — products, storytelling strategies, and research reports — across numerous industries.

They may not seem like it, but earplugs are a problem. The world manufactures 40 billion earplugs a year. To put that into context, if laid end-to-end, 40 billion of these little plastic contaminants would stretch over 2.4 million miles, which is enough to wrap around the Earth nearly 100 times. To this day, single-use earplugs are still made of petroleum-based materials, mostly PVC, which are endocrine disrupting, cancer-causing, and inflict environmental harm. Get ready to start seeing these things everywhere. We’re grateful to be working with GOB as they reinvent this category of products.

Finding right-fit applications for new innovative materials through research and iteration is what we do best. We’re helping GOB build their vision to reinvent wearable wellness products that are engineered with biology. Their first product - the world’s first plastic-free earplug made from lab-grown mycelium - launched last month. Learn more at https://www.gob.earth/

Today marks one year since we moved into Pier 70 in the Dogpatch. Our studio has been a vital tool in our creative process — allowing us the spaciousness to think big, explore materials and processes in a more expansive way, and host our clients as we work together to tackle regenerative challenges together. …and the view isn’t so bad either. We coined the term Progress Projections to replace what the industry calls “future forecasts.” Our Projections are bespoke strategic foresight reports that map out a course from the present to your future destination. We offer brand-specific Progress Projections for our clients and also create publicly accessible reports that explore and elucidate macro themes around the world. As we prepare for Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA)'s Circular Design Deep Dive, we reflect on our first Progress Projection, “WASTE SOURCE”. From homemade materials and localized manufacturing to the product brands championing the cleaning of the oceans, this Progress Projection looked at the most progressive examples of how design is working toward shifting the narrative and the way we think about ‘waste’. #waste #circulardesign #IDSADeepDive Read this Progress Projection here → https://lnkd.in/gaQKS8kF

International Repair Day was this weekend, a reminder of the importance of repairability to extend the life of our products and the continued demand of our legislation to require this of brands and manufacturers. Our collaborators at Gantri spent a day with us in the studio and captured us in action. In true PROWL fashion, there were lots of giggles and bad jokes. https://lnkd.in/gQKC6tch
