Without proper sustainment, all the hard work invested in implementing change can unravel. To realize the full benefits and achieve long-term adoption, reinforcing and sustaining change is essential. The good news is there are effective tactics you can implement to reinforce and maintain change: • Celebrate project progress—Encourage teams to maintain the change by celebrating milestones. For example, with each successful month of change, celebrate with a team lunch. • Create public performance scoreboards—Boost motivation by holding teams accountable for sustaining the change. • Design compensation or appraisal systems—Reward teams with compensation or prizes for sustaining the change.
