About us

Established in 1982 to increase industry cooperation and cohesiveness and create greater public awareness and understanding of the industry’s issues, the Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association represents more than 150 San Diego-area companies engaged in ship repair, conversion, overhaul and modernization. Approximately 70 percent of the work performed is on United States Navy and Defense Contracts. Association member companies provide a full range of services, from maintenance, conversion, overhaul and ship repair, to specialized crafts such as welding, industrial painting, pipefitting, shipfitting, electrical work, sand blasting, carpentry and rigging, to name just a few. Member companies often join forces on major projects in order to share labor and resources for the most timely, efficient completion of jobs. All work is performed to the highest quality standards (many of the member companies are ISO Certified for quality and environmental protection), with priorities placed on employee and customer safety, protection of the environment, employee training and advancement opportunities and customer satisfaction. In addition to the crucial services provided for the Navy fleet and commercial vessels, Association member companies add more than 14,000 jobs to the San Diego economy, both directly and through subcontractors and suppliers. These well-paying jobs go to a diverse cross section of the region’s population and contribute hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to the local economy each year.

Updates

  • As many of you are aware, last year (for the 2nd consecutive year) the PSDSRA and San Diego Rescue Mission (SDRM) partnered and held our annual donation drive. We had more participating companies, more boxes collected and more items donated than the previous year by a pretty wide margin. It was truly impressive what we were able to do in a 2-week event. The generosity and support that was shown is truly amazing. My hope is that this year we can duplicate our success! Emails went out to the PSDSRA membership today 9/27/2024. If you didn’t receive it, but would like to participate please reach out and we will get a donation box over to your office. For anyone unfamiliar with SDRM, they are a non-profit homeless shelter and recovery center serving thousands of men, women and children experiencing homelessness, hunger, poverty, and abuse in San Diego since 1955. I’ve personally toured their downtown facility and met with their staff on many occasions. I can say without a doubt this is the best run non-profit facility in the city of San Diego. They have an amazing success rate with lasting results when it comes to dealing with homelessness and changing lives. They are currently operating a 360-bed facility downtown, a 50 bed facility in Oceanside and recently opened a new 162-bed facility in National City so their needs are greater than ever. The SD Rescue Mission takes no government funding, so every donation makes a direct impact to the programs they offer and people they serve. If you’d like to know more about SDRM, please visit their website https://www.sdrescue.org/ and check out this video detailing their new facility in National City. https://lnkd.in/e3shJT7b Joshua Carr President, California Marine Cleaning
