🎆Exciting News to End the Year! 🎆 I’ll start with the same quote folks probably have heard me say many times before. Building a startup is HARD. Building a startup focused on making a massive impact and cleaning up the world is VERY HARD. Thanks to Yong Hyun Kim and Envisioning Partners we are one admittedly large step forward to achieving what many folks deemed impossible. We’re thrilled to announce a major milestone for Phoenix Tailings: the successful close of our Series B funding round! Envisioning Partners led this round, which received incredible support from Yamaha Motor Ventures, Escape Velocity, BMW i Ventures and IQT (In-Q-Tel). This funding is a testament to the growing demand for sustainable, zero-waste solutions in the critical materials industry. Rare earth metals are essential to powering today's and tomorrow's technologies—from electric vehicles to consumer electronics to advanced defense systems. At Phoenix Tailings, we’re committed to creating a zero-waste, zero-emission supply chain for these indispensable materials. With this investment, we’re taking bold steps forward to scale our operations and deliver on our mission of revolutionizing the rare earth metals industry. This includes expanding our capacity, enhancing our innovative technologies, and driving sustainable practices across the supply chain. We’re honored to partner with visionary investors who share our belief in a greener, cleaner future. Together, we’re reshaping how critical materials are sourced and refined, ensuring that innovation doesn’t come at the cost of our planet. Thank you to our investors, our team, Ernest Scheyder at Reuters for sharing our story, and everyone who believes in the future of sustainable critical metals. The best is yet to come! "The thing the market hates the most is uncertainty." — Dr. Kurt Myers Growing up, my family insisted that I learn finance and the stock market. By age 12, I had my first stock portfolio and tracked market trends. My father would always remind me of this quote whenever a major event loomed on the horizon. Lately, I’ve noticed many fellow founders in the ecosystem are deeply concerned about the upcoming U.S. presidential election, worrying about how either candidate's win could affect our markets. At the heart of this concern is that same familiar challenge: uncertainty. To my fellow founders worried about what the election might mean for future capital markets, I’d like to share a reminder. The fact that the S&P reached record highs post-election is a testament to my father’s favorite quote. It isn’t about which path wins out—it’s about our resilience and ability to adapt to whatever challenges the world throws our way. Now that we know the path, it’s time to leverage it. Yes, some pools of capital may close, but new ones are already opening. We’re seeing key funding mechanisms emerge in sectors like onshoring manufacturing for the  Defense Industrial Base, and they’re reaching beyond traditional military equipment to support areas like critical minerals,  software,  energy systems, and more. These Department of Defense (DoD) initiatives are opening doors for founders focused on high-impact, innovative solutions for national infrastructure and resilience. What areas of opportunity do you see opening up? Let’s discuss where we’re finding new opportunities and how to keep pushing forward together. #EnergyTransition #CleanTech #Entrepreneurship #Venture #Onshoring #CriticalMinerals #DefenseIndustry #Innovation Pete Myers Anvesh Gurijala Michael Segal Teddy Blank Nichola Eliovits Jesse Evans John Capodilupo Andrew Lackner Warren Katz David DePalma

🌟 Proud moment sharing this post from my friend & cofounder and incredible CTO, Tomás Villalón Jr., PhD I met Tomás at #MIT on the solar car team, and I’m so thankful for the journey that led us here. Together with Nicholas Myers & Anthony Balladon we’ve built Phoenix Tailings from the ground up, driven by a shared vision for a sustainable, zero-waste future. Tomás’s expertise and passion for clean technology have been essential in transforming our vision into reality. I couldn’t ask for a better partner as we push the boundaries of what’s possible in critical metal production. Here’s to the future and all we’ll accomplish together! 🚀 Check out his post for more about what we’re building. #Sustainability #ZeroWaste #CriticalMetals #PhoenixTailings #Innovation

🌱 It All Started at MIT 🌱 Back in my first year at MIT, I took Course 3.091 (Introduction to Solid-State Chemistry), and I was hooked. Little did I know that curiosity would set me on a path to help solve one of today’s biggest challenges: how to sustainably source the critical metals that power our clean energy future. Fast forward to 2018: a chance meeting at a Bible study with my future co-founder, Nicholas Myers, sparked a conversation about electrification and the materials problem in the U.S. It was a moment of, “Why aren’t we doing something about this?” A few months later, Nick called and said, “I’ve got $7,000—when do we start?” And that’s how Phoenix Tailings was born. Today, we’re turning toxic mining waste into vital materials like rare earth metals, nickel, and lithium—all without carbon emissions or toxic byproducts. With the support of the Department of Energy, we’re scaling up, aiming to produce 3,000+ tons of critical metals by 2026. From backyard experiments to building a production facility, it’s been a wild journey. But the mission is clear: create a resilient, domestic supply chain for the metals that power wind turbines, EVs, and the technologies of tomorrow—all while protecting our planet. Grateful for the foundation I built at MIT and the incredible team that’s making this vision a reality. Together, we’re proving that innovation, sustainability, and determination can create lasting impact. #MIT #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #RareEarthMetals #Innovation #ClimateAction #CircularEconomy
