With end-of-year in just 2 weeks, the pressure is on. It can be tempting for sales leaders to lose their cool in high-tension conversations, but this hurts more than it helps. Intrinsic motivation is harder to build, but when successfully done, it will push your sales reps to hit their goals far more effectively than short-term fear. Raising tempers and tensions in meetings is normalized in sales. But this doesn’t actually help your reps hit their quotas. Working under leadership that frequently shouts at, berates, or embarrasses their team results in employee turnover and low morale. Instead, leadership should focus on incentivizing in both tangible and intangible ways. For example, at PandaDoc we do shoutouts in meetings, spontaneous prizes, celebrating our customer's wins, and clear career pathing.
