Children in foster care often carry the heavy weight of relational trauma – from neglect and abuse to the heartbreak of separation. 💔 This type of trauma doesn’t just affect their past; it shapes their future, often leading to mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, CPTSD, and attachment issues. Understanding these connections is crucial for providing the right care and support. 💡 At Omni Family of Services, we offer trauma-informed services to help both children and caregivers heal and build stronger, healthier relationships. Together, we can help every child thrive. Richard Werhle has always wanted to be a dad. And he was more than happy to invest time volunteering with organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters to engage and work with children. But it was the year and a half that he spent providing respite care through Omni for almost 14 kids and their foster families that truly set him on the path to fatherhood. “I live by the belief that everything happens for a reason… and it sure did in this situation!” says Richard. Two children in particular, Marcus and Austin, spoke to his heart. The boys’ time with him had overlapped briefly, but both had gone back to their foster families. In time, however, Richard became Austin’s full-time foster parent. Then Marcus came back to visit after no contact for nearly a year… and the dynamic changed. The two boys had so much in common they became fast friends. Marcus kept coming back to visit almost every other weekend. “I remember saying to myself after the first few times Marcus visited, these boys were meant to be brothers,” Richard recalls, and his heart opened wider. In just over a year, it was official. They’re quite the team, this bonded trio, this chosen family who love traveling, playing sports and Fortnite, and even cooking together. (Campfire s’mores, too!) Richard adopted both boys, now 14 and 16, on October 8, 2024. “They are my boys. It’s like someone watching over me sent them into my life for a reason,” he marvels. #OmniFamilyofServices

Lee Ann and Jared Bryce were clear-eyed when they began their foster parenting journey. It would be short-term, since the primary goal was ultimately to help reunite children with their birth families. They wanted school-age children, thinking that the need to get “up and out the door in time for the first bell” would fit nicely with their own workday schedules, especially since Lee Ann was a teacher. So, they got busy. Got approved and certified. Took training classes for would-be foster parents. Set up bunk beds in the extra room. And even began a much-needed bathroom remodel. They were ready and opened their home and hearts to all three boys, a 1 year-old, a 4 year-old and a newborn, for nine months. Then Omni called again. Could they foster two little girls? “Sure!” Now they were fostering five children. Then one Christmas came a third opportunity: two teenagers, a boy and a girl, needed a new foster home, however temporary. Could they make room for both children? “Of course!” The Bryces, their home now filled with more energy, joy and humans than they ever imagined, were still clear-eyed about foster parenting. It’s just that in the two years since they had begun their journey, they had arrived at a new understanding… a new destination. “We knew our family was complete,” says Lee Ann. And they wanted to adopt them all. (In each child’s situation reunification with their birth parents was not possible, which then made them eligible for adoption.) The Bryces adopted their first five children, now ranging in age from four to 11 in 2022. Their teenagers, the boy now 15 and the girl now 14 were adopted in 2023. Today, Lee Ann Bryce is an Omni Family of Services resource coordinator in the south central Tennessee region, working to help more children and families thrive. #OmniFamilyofServices #UntilEveryoneThrives #NationalAdoptionMonth
