🚀 Innovating Diplomacy with AI - The Data Innovation Lab’s Year in Review As we approach the end of 2024, it’s time to look back on an extraordinary year - one marked by inspiring events, impactful collaborations, and meaningful conversations about international cooperation, diplomacy and AI. Workshops & Conferences: Through a series of workshops in Berlin, Mexico City, Rome, Belgrade, Tallinn, and Nairobi, we brought together diplomats from over 40 embassies, foreign policy experts, and local stakeholders to explore AI’s transformative role in global diplomacy. Co-hosted with German Embassies and local partners, these events bridged diverse perspectives on AI’s opportunities and challenges for international cooperation. Our participation in conferences, like the Heads of German Missions Conference, the Tallinn Digital Summit, and the Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy in Mexico City fostered collaboration, dialogue and partnerships. Beyond conferences, we co-organized impactful public dialogues, such as our Fireside Chat on AI for Peace in Nairobi or a workshop on AI-based disinformation for German Federal Foreign Office decision makers. Guest lectures, like at the Data Steward Course from The Data Tank showcased our commitment to knowledge-sharing and capacity building. These initiatives reinforced our mission to advance diplomacy through innovation, dialogue, and shared values. AI for International Negotiations: In 2024, we launched the Proof of Concept for “Diplomacy GPT”, an AI tool co-developed with Omdena and designed to assist foreign policy experts in navigating complex negotiations by summarizing and comparing consultation papers from the UN’s Global Digital Compact negotiations. Throughout 2024, we refined the tool in close cooperation with colleagues from the German Federal Foreign Office, paving the way for AI’s practical application in diplomacy. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eBvRRcK4 Foreign Policy & AI Forum: In October, our Foreign Policy & AI Forum brought together over 500 participants for thought-provoking discussions about the intersection of AI & diplomacy. Through panels, project showcases, and contributions from global experts and engaged attendees, the forum underscored the transformative potential of AI in addressing shared diplomatic challenges. Check out the recordings 👉 https://lnkd.in/etxpTWrN Data Talks Our Data Talks series featured seven inspiring discussions throughout the year - from AI Ethics and Data Colonialism to the UN’s GDC. You can find all the recordings here: https://lnkd.in/e-xgRV-k We extend our sincerer gratitude to our founders, the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany, and GovTech Campus Deutschland for their support and all our established partnerships who help drive meaningful impact. 🤝

Agriculture is the largest consumer of global freshwater, yet inefficient irrigation and soil degradation lead to significant water loss. With climate variability and growing water demands, farmers face increasing pressure to adapt. 🌍💧 Omdena built an AI-powered solution for Nitrolytics to address these challenges: • Predictive Modeling: Using advanced algorithms like XGBoost and Neural Networks to forecast soil water retention. • Rainwater Insights: Real-time data to improve harvesting and storage efficiency. • Precision Irrigation: Customized schedules that optimize water use without compromising crop health. 🌟 The Outcome: Reduced costs, sustainable water management, and resilience for farmers navigating a changing climate. This is a step toward a future where AI and innovation support sustainable agriculture globally. 🌱 #SustainableAgriculture #AIForGood #AgriTechInnovation #WaterManagement #ClimateSmartFarming #PrecisionFarming #AIInAgriculture #SustainabilityMatters #SmartFarming #FutureOfFarming

👀 Beating the Heat: can AI supercharge school retrofit projects in Tanzania? Imagine you're sweating in a conference room. You're enveloped in heat, surrounded by fans and neighbours fanning themselves with books 🥵 And imagine the conference theme is on climate 🌍 It's ironic, right? Just as adults struggle to concentrate in an overheated conference room, children find it hard in a stifling classroom. Environmental factors such as temperature, lighting, and sound significantly affect students' learning experiences. High temperatures can lead to heat stress, which impacts concentration and longer-term performance. ⁉️ Could AI help? We worked with Omdena and Frontier Tech Hub on this project to explore how AI can be leveraged to predict classroom conditions by analysing data from various sources, including satellite imagery and meteorological data. The data can help put proactive measures in place to improve learning environments 📈 Read David Vigoureux's blog to learn more, and then read the landscape review and final report to explore further. https://lnkd.in/gH4qfh-t A big shout-out to our team Björn Haßler Hassan Mansour Jennie Lester Olamide Eso Wuxia Zhang Eunice Jengo and Adnane Touiyate
