As part of our Members' Forum & EGM and 40th Anniversary celebrations, OSRL took a nostalgic journey through our most treasured moments, brought to life in a captivating film 🎥 Since 1984, OSRL has been at the forefront of oil spill preparedness and response, evolving from a collaborative initiative among five major oil companies into a global leader with over 125 members, representing more than two-thirds of the world's oil production. Our journey has been marked by significant milestones, including our pivotal role in the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989, which highlighted the critical need for a dedicated response organisation. Over the past four decades, we've responded to over 400 spills worldwide, continuously innovating to meet the evolving needs of our members and the environment. As we recognise this milestone, we invite you to watch our 40th Anniversary film, reflecting on our history and looking forward to a future of continued leadership and innovation. 🔗 Click here to watch the full film and read testimonials from the OSRL community: https://lnkd.in/eT_GfpfR #OSRL40Years #osrl #osrlcommunity

How does the high-pressure environment of oil spill response impact mental health? 🧠 OSRL is proud to fund the IOSC Responders Mental Health Survey, designed to gain deeper insights into how challenging spill environments affect those on the frontline. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us better understand these impacts and shape future tools and practices that promote a safer and more supportive work environment. 📋 Are you a responder? Please take a few minutes to share your experience: https://lnkd.in/dxWgfmJe Together, we can foster a culture that prioritizes safety and well-being. 💙 #osrl #oilspillresponse #safetyfirst
IOSC Responder Mental Health Survey. Please respond and share with your colleagues! International Oil Spill Conference, in cooperation with NDRI Ventures, is conducting a world-wide confidential survey on the mental health stressors of emergency responders and would like to invite individuals who have participated in real events to share their valuable experiences. This survey will gather baseline data and assess how various experiences from past spill events impact stress levels. The responses to this survey will allow us to examine and quantify the stressors, many of which are unique to emergency response, and offer better mental support to emergency responders in the future. Once survey data are analyzed, the aggregated summary and recommended best practices will be published in a peer-reviewed paper and shared with all interested parties. You can access the survey by following the link below. Feel free to give it widest distribution. The survey will remain open till January 15, 2025. Please note that while the survey is compatible with both computers and mobile devices, it is easier to complete on a computer. We anticipate it will take about 20-30 minutes, or longer for those who wish to provide more detailed responses. Thank you very much for your participation and your support of current and future emergency responders! https://lnkd.in/dxWgfmJe

When the pandemic challenged traditional training methods, OSRL turned to innovation. Adapting Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) training for a virtual format, we pioneered live videoblogging to bring the field to the screen. 💡 Videoblogging is a live video feed from a SCAT Specialist navigating a shoreline lets participants interact in real time—requesting views, analyzing features, and building critical assessment skills—all from wherever they are. 🔑 Why It Works? It allows for real-time engagement, enhances collaborative team dynamics, and provides an immersive learning experience. 🚀 From integrating UAVs for hard-to-reach areas to real-time updates during live response events, live videoblogging opens exciting possibilities for the future of oil spill response training. This technique can also be integrated with new response tools such as the Incident Hub. We are currently looking at different ways to enhance the immersiveness and interactivity of videoblogging through technology such as live streams using 360 cameras.
