RADM Kurt J. Rothenhaus, Chief of Naval Research, and his delegation from the Office of Naval Research was recently hosted by ST Engineering’s President of Digital Systems Jin Phang Low on 22 November 2024. During the visit, #TeamUIS presented on the capabilities of our unmanned maritime solutions, such as our VENUS Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs). The USVs are designed to meet demanding maritime missions, and they are proven in Singapore’s congested waters. A life-sized model of the AUTONOMAST™, an all-in-one modular maritime autonomy kit that converts manned vessels into unmanned vessels, was also on display. Additionally, the Mission Software and Systems (MSS) team shared their strategy for developing AI technologies to enhance various business areas. They presented a demonstration on Agil® Trust, a deepfake detection tool which detects, analyses and combats misinformation across video and audio channels. We thank RADM Rothenhaus for the visit and look forward to fostering a strong partnership with the US Navy. ⚓🤝 #STEngineering #Navy #Autonomous #Maritime #Vessel #Technology #Technologies #AI #Deepfake

The future of maritime autonomy was on full display at the 2024 Maritime RobotX Challenge, held November 3-9 in Sarasota, Florida! This biennial competition, hosted by RoboNation and supported by ONR, brings together some of the brightest university students from around the world to push the boundaries of robotic and autonomous systems. This year, 15 universities from six countries participated, showcasing 13 innovative autonomous maritime systems. Over 300 students, faculty advisors and industry mentors collaborated to transform the Wave Adaptive Modular-Vessel (WAM-V) into a cutting-edge autonomous system, tackling real-world maritime challenges with both autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Kurt Rothenhaus joined the event, inspiring students to pursue STEM careers and noting: “RobotX is an extremely compelling competition that features some of the brightest young minds from around the globe. It was fantastic to see the next generation working toward developing the next technologies that may one day benefit our Sailors, Marines and Nation.” ONR Program Officers were also on hand as judges, engaging with students and encouraging collaboration. This competition isn’t just about technology — it’s about building an international community of innovators ready to solve the #NavalSTEM challenges of tomorrow. 👏 A huge congratulations to all participants for their hard work and ingenuity! #WAMV #UAV #ASV #STEM #stemcompetition #innovation #ONR | Naval STEM
