A tiny greeting with a big reward. Return Salam with kindness, and feel the difference! A Lesson from Surah Baqarah and Hadith. In Islam, the simple yet powerful act of greeting one another with "Salam" (peace) holds profound significance. It is not just a polite gesture, but a reflection of the values that shape the Muslim community. This is beautifully highlighted in the 86th verse of Surah Al-Baqarah: "And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet with a better one or return it with the same. Indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, an Accountant۔" (Al-Baqarah 2:86) This verse teaches us the importance of greeting others with peace and kindness, and even encouraging us to return a greeting with something better. It signifies the beauty of spreading peace, fostering unity, and creating an environment of warmth and goodwill within the community. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized this act in numerous Hadiths. He ﷺ said: "You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread Salam among yourselves." (Sahih Muslim) These teachings show that "Salam" is not just a greeting; it’s a means of cultivating love, strengthening bonds, and embodying the true spirit of Islam. Small Deeds, Big Impact Often, we overlook the smaller deeds thinking they hold little value, but Islam teaches us that even the smallest acts of goodness, like offering a "Salam" carry great weight in the sight of Allah. They contribute to building a harmonious society, where peace reigns and hearts are united. Let us try to be people who spread peace wherever we go. Start by offering "Salam" to your neighbors, friends, and even strangers. Reflect on its deeper meaning and the positive impact it can have on our lives and the lives of others. Share your thoughts in the comments below: How has the simple act of greeting with "Salam" made a difference in your life? Let's encourage each other to keep spreading peace! The Aromatic Path To Almighty's Pleasure As Muslims, we often focus on the spiritual and moral aspects of our faith, but did you know that scent also plays an important role in Islam? According to Hadith, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the importance of using scents, saying: "No one should forbid a scent." (Sunan Abu Dawud) In fact, the Prophet ﷺ himself used to wear scents and encouraged his companions to do the same. This practice not only promotes personal hygiene but also reflects the importance of cleanliness and purity in Islam. Friday Congregation: In particular, the use of scent is encouraged on Fridays, when Muslims gather for congregational prayer (Jumu'ah) at the masjid. As the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever goes to the mosque on Friday, let him bathe and wear his best clothes, and apply some perfume if he has some." (Sunan Ibn Majah) By wearing scent, we can avoid disturbing others with unpleasant odors and create a more welcoming and respectful atmosphere during congregational prayer. These scents are not only pleasing to the senses but also have a rich history and cultural significance in Islamic tradition. Using scents is encouraged in Islam, as it promotes cleanliness and purity. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to wear scents and encouraged his companions to do the same. Wearing scent on Fridays is particularly encouraged, as it helps create a respectful atmosphere during congregational prayer. Let's revive this beautiful Sunnah and make it a part of our daily lives, especially on Fridays! Suggested Scents 1. Oud (Agarwood) 2. Musk 3. Gucci Flora 4. Jasmine 5. Amber Share Your Thoughts: Have you ever experienced the joy of wearing a beautiful scent during prayer or a special occasion? Share your favorite scents and experiences in the comments below! ...... • Be a Source of Goodness in Islam! In a beautiful Hadith, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "He who introduced some good practice in Islam which was followed after him (by people) would be assured of a reward like one who followed it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who introduced some evil practice in Islam which had been followed subsequently (by others), he would be required to bear the burden like that of one who followed this (evil practice) without theirs being diminished in any respect." Sahih Muslim This powerful message encourages us to set positive examples and promote good practices in our lives. Every act of kindness, charity, patience, and righteousness that we start can inspire others and become a source of continuous reward for us. Imagine the lasting impact of a good deed or habit that others adopt and pass on! How can we set a good example for others? Practice kindness and empathy: Small acts like helping others, speaking gently, or forgiving someone can inspire those around us. Spread beneficial knowledge: Share Islamic teachings, Hadith, and Quranic understanding with friends and family. Encourage good deeds: Motivate others to engage in charity, prayer, and other acts of worship. Avoid harmful habits: Keep away from practices that can mislead or harm others, as each negative action can have lasting consequences. Let’s strive to introduce and uphold good practices in our lives, so we become a source of blessings for ourselves and others, building a legacy of goodness that outlives us. May Almighty make us leaders in righteousness and protect us from being sources of harm. Ameen! Oasis Islamic Hub An Elegant Institute of Quran and Hadith learning. The Power of Niyyah: Aligning Your Intentions In Islam, Niyyah (intention) is the foundation of every action. It's the driving force behind our deeds, influencing their value and acceptance. Niyyah really matters because Determines the validity of actions (e.g., prayer, fasting) Differentiates between good and bad deeds Reflects one's sincerity and devotion Impacts the reward and blessings from Allah How to Make a Pure Niyyah: Set intentions before actions Seek Allah's pleasure alone Focus on the process, not just outcomes Renew your Niyyah regularly Take a moment to examine your intentions and value your deeds. Ask yourself: Why am I performing this action? Is my intention pure and sincere? May Allah guide us to make sincere intentions and reward us with goodness. Share your thoughts on Niyyah! • Good deeds aren't just about doing--they're about preserving. The mentioned verse from the Quran holds a powerful reminder for us all. Allah promises tenfold reward for anyone who comes with a good deed. But the choice of words is profound—He says comes with a good deed, not simply does a good deed. What is the difference? It’s because the true value of a good deed is only realized when it is performed sincerely for Allah and then preserved from anything that can spoil it. It’s easy to do something good, but to protect that deed from being nullified by pride, arrogance, or bad actions afterwards—that’s the real challenge. So, how do we ensure our deeds reach Allah? Intention (Niyyah): Make sure every action is done sincerely for the sake of Allah alone. Humility: Avoid pride and showing off after doing a good deed. Repentance: Continuously seek forgiveness to keep our hearts and deeds pure. Guarding our actions: Avoid sins and behaviors that can diminish or invalidate our good deeds. Allah’s mercy is vast, and for every sincere good deed, He rewards us many times over. Let’s focus not only on doing good but on safeguarding it, so that we come with it on the Day of Judgment. • The Importance of Pleasing Parents in Islam: A Divine Command In Islam, the respect and kindness we show toward our parents are deeply intertwined with our relationship with Allah (SWT). One profound Hadith that highlights this concept is: "The Lord's pleasure is in the parent's pleasure, and the Lord's anger is in the parent's anger." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1899) The Hadith illustrates that our relationship with our parents is a key part of our faith. By honoring them, we are, in a sense, worshiping Allah. This close connection between pleasing our parents and pleasing Allah highlights the significance of being dutiful, especially as they age and require more care. Practical Lessons from the Hadith and Verse: Respect and Honor Your Parents Seek Their Happiness Avoid Anger or Disrespect Show Gratitude A Path to Paradise Let us strive to show gratitude to our parents, reflect on their sacrifices, and make a conscious effort to treat them with the love and respect they deserve. • The Two Pillars of Wise Decision-Making In Islam, we are blessed with two profound practices that ensure our decisions are grounded in both divine guidance and sound advice: Istikhara - The Prayer for Guidance When you are faced with uncertainty, turn to Allah with the prayer of Istikhara. It is not just about asking for a sign, but seeking peace of heart and clarity in your path. Through istikhara, we ask Allah to grant us what is good and protect us from harm, trusting that His plan is always the best for us. Istishara - The Power of Consultation Alongside seeking guidance from Allah, it is also essential to consult with people who are sincere and have your best interests at heart. Surround yourself with those who offer wisdom, sound judgment, and want to see you succeed in your journey. Their insight can help us see things we may overlook on our own. Both are Key to Success Together, istikhara and istishara balance spiritual reliance with practical counsel. They remind us that while we trust Allah, we should also take active steps by consulting those around us. This combination leads to decisions that are well-rounded, thoughtful, and blessed. So, before making that important choice, remember to seek both divine wisdom and trusted advice. Insha'Allah, the path will become clearer. • A Special Moment on Friday Did you know that every Friday holds a precious moment when ALL du’as (prayers) are accepted? The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "There is a time on Friday when, if a Muslim happens to be praying and asking Allah for something good, He will give it to him." [Bukhari and Muslim] It’s a short window, but one filled with immense blessings! Scholars suggest it could be in the final hour before Maghrib (sunset) or during the Friday prayer. Let’s not miss out on this opportunity! Make your heartfelt du’as, ask for forgiveness, and turn to Allah. The power of du’a is immense, and Friday gives us an extra special chance to be heard! • A Legacy of Kindness: Honoring Our Parents' Loved Ones The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The finest act of goodness is that a person should treat kindly the loved ones of his father." (Sahih Muslim) This hadith teaches us that true birr (goodness) extends beyond our direct obligations to our parents. It calls us to honor and care for the people they held dear, even after they are gone. This is an act of love, loyalty, and gratitude. Why does this matter? Treating our parents' friends and loved ones with kindness preserves the ties that our parents valued. It reflects the depth of our respect for them and continues the bonds they created in their lifetime. How can we bring this into our lives? Visit and check on your parents’ old friends and companions. Show kindness and support to relatives whom your parents loved and cared for. Remember and speak kindly of those who were close to your parents, maintaining those relationships with warmth and sincerity. By keeping these connections alive, we not only honor our parents’ memories but also embody the compassion and goodness that Islam teaches us to uphold.
