This mission is achieved through the performance of seven core functions: - The identification and framing of issues of concern; - Advocacy; - The identification of potential funding sources and the pursuit of funding; - Project planning, plan implementation, programming, and coordination; - Participation in partnerships; - Sub-grantee administration; and - The direct provision of technical services, data, and other resources. The seven functions pertain to coordinated planning & programming for the region in the areas of: - Transportation, - The environment, and - Economic development. Just this month, NIRPC was pleased to announce that we have been awarded $400,000 from the federal Safe Streets and Road for All (SS4A) program! NIRPC will use these funds to produce the Northwest Indiana Regional Safety Action Plan. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. The SS4A program supports the U.S. Department of Transportation's (USDOT) National Roadway Safety Strategy and our goal of zero roadway deaths using a Safe System Approach. NIRPC also congratulates Whiting ($200K) and Michigan City ($80K) for their awards. To learn more about the SS4A program, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gUXcFzNT

NIRPC congratulates all involved in the Hobart Main Lift Station and Forcemain project. This project included replacing all pumps and controls, as well as construction of four miles of 30-inch forcemain. It was 16 years in the making! These improvments may not be headline news, but without them we would certainly notice.
