Adirondack Regional Airport to undergo major renovations Adirondack Regional Airport in Harrietstown is among nine airports in upstate New York slated for major renovations, with the goal of attracting more visitors and boosting the local economy. The renovations are expected to create 90 new jobs, with many local North Country businesses contributing to the construction. New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez emphasized the positive ripple effect on the local economy. "It creates a level of stability for the jobs that are here in the area," Dominguez said. "The construction work is going to be done by local contractors and subcontractors, all from the North Country." The project is set for completion by the end of 2025. https://lnkd.in/gmY5d-Cv

Five Long Island municipalities were awarded more than $3.72 million from the state’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). The money is part of $14.2 million of LWRP funds awarded to 21 communities statewide, according to an announcement Thursday from the New York State Department of State. The program provides grants to communities to develop plans that cultivate a vision for their waterfront, expanding public access, protecting the environment, while also boosting tourism and economic development opportunities. The awards cover a variety of planning, design and construction projects that focus on accessible economic, community, environmental and recreational improvements. Suffolk County was awarded $2 million towards constructing improvements at Violet Cove, converting vacant land overlooking Moriches Bay into a recreational eco-destination. The project implements the draft Town of Brookhaven LWRP by expanding recreational amenities, utilizing nature-based techniques to mitigate flooding, and promoting education about the local ecosystem, climate resiliency and adaptation. https://lnkd.in/gsXNBGWk

Hochul vetoes bill requiring school district, union reps on industrial development agency boards Legislation requiring industrial development agencies to have school district and labor union representatives on their governing boards was vetoed by Gov. Kathy Hochul last week. In her veto message, Hochul said school district and labor union representatives are “already eligible to serve as members of industrial development agencies.” Therefore, she concluded, “it is most appropriate to ensure specific industrial development agency members are chosen by the municipality to best represent the interests of the community rather than imposing an inflexible statutory requirement.” https://lnkd.in/gU9pD6et
