A statement from our President & CEO Carlo A. Scissura, Esq. on congestion pricing going live in Manhattan today: “Just a few hours ago, a switch was flipped, and New York took a quantum leap forward from the spark of energy created. Congestion pricing is finally... let me underline that... FINALLY... here, and we celebrate the cleaner, greener, faster, safer, smarter, more accessible, more equitable, more efficient future it brings! Our mass transit is reliant on the funding congestion pricing will provide to bring the proposed 2025-29 MTA Capital Plan to life (once the legislature rightfully reverses course and approves it) and New Yorkers can look forward to the world-class system they so deserve and have waited far too long for. The Building Congress is proud of the work we did alongside ally organizations to dispel the many myths about congestion pricing and fiercely advocate to make it a reality. We thank the Governor for her leadership in getting us across the finish line as well, including thwarting the many lawsuits that threatened this day. And we thank and congratulate Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chair Janno Lieber for enabling this historic moment. Decades of debate are over. And with that first sensor scanning that first license plate early this morning, New York took its rightful place as the steward of our nation's transportation future.” – Carlo Scissura

Happy New Year to you and your family & colleagues, from your friends at the New York Building Congress! We are excited to kick off an amazing 2025, filled with tons of shovels in the ground! Our mission to advance economic development in our great city and state and across America remains the same. We knocked it out of the park in 2024 – our best year ever for advocacy, membership, and events – and we are excited to build off this spectacular momentum! As we enter our 104th year, our work will continue and will expand. During trying times, our industry has always been there to lift our economy out of its hole – and this year we will continue to do so. When things have been at their worst, we have always been at our best. This year our advocacy will expand even further, with a strong focus on housing and infrastructure. With major changes in our federal government, our role in Washington, D.C. will be even more important. Thank you to our Board, led by our Chair Gregory Kelly of STV, our members, and the entire team at the Building Congress for contributing to our great successes. The sky’s the limit! -- Carlo Scissura, President & CEO, NY Building Congress

22 middle school students from Astoria New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Houses in Queens & 13 from Stanley Avenue Preservation (Linden/Penn-Wortman Houses) in Brooklyn’s East New York neighborhood recently cut the ribbons on new community rooms, designed by/for young New Yorkers. Through the NYCHA STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, & mathematics) Innovators program, the students worked with Salvadori Center STEAM educators & designers from WSP & L+M Development Partners LLC to learn about careers in design & develop the new community spaces. The New York Building Foundation, the charitable arm of the Building Congress, and L + M were thrilled to sponsor the program. In the fall, volunteers from Turner Construction Company, L+M, the Public Housing Community Fund, & Salvadori turned their visions into reality. We were proud to join the ribbon cutting last night alongside NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt at the HANAC Astoria Cornerstone program at Astoria Houses. “Congratulations to these amazing young people on their design work this summer,” said our Prez/CEO Carlo Scissura. "At the Building Foundation, we are proud to support pathways for youth to explore our great building industry here in New York City. We see our next generation of designers, engineers, & builders in this room, and we are so excited for the future they will design and create.” Many thanks to PIX11's MONICA MORALES for shining a light on the students and their work! https://lnkd.in/dRbJwC8a

A statement from President & CEO Carlo Scissura: “Ingrid Lewis-Martin was a linchpin of the Adams administration and helped guide the city through a turbulent pandemic recovery period to a better place. She’s a one-of-a-kind New Yorker whose contributions have been immeasurable. She’ll be missed at City Hall, and I’m proud to call her my friend.” https://t.co/lh1mgEPe3z

We wholeheartedly agree with Rep. Nadler on this one -- fully fund the Metropolitan Transportation Authority! "Every New Yorker knows the MTA is the lifeline of New York City and the region surrounding it... When Gov. Hochul and the state Legislature begin their session in January, they can show New Yorkers they’re ready to govern in the second Donald Trump era by immediately funding the MTA’s 2025-2029 Capital Plan. That Plan is a blueprint for ensuring our transit infrastructure can meet current and future demands, while also safeguarding our city against climate-related threats. It will build on the IIJA’s legacy and keep New York moving — no matter what happens in Washington." https://lnkd.in/dqhsbc4E

A statement from our President & CEO Carlo Scissura: “Chairing the previous charter revision commission was one of the highlights of my career, and I’m proud of the common-sense policies that overwhelmingly passed on Election Day as a result of our work and the testimony of everyday New Yorkers. I wish Richard, Sharon, Leila and the entire 2025 commission not just luck, but well wishes for an informed, collaborative process that results in even more initiatives that move our city forward and upward.” https://bit.ly/3OOeodE
