Independent since 1906, we empower people through sport and craftsmanship to create positive change around the world.

About us

In 1906, New Balance began as a humble one-man operation founded on the belief that “we were born to move,” and has since grown into an international corporation, selling footwear and apparel in over 120 countries and employing over 8,000 associates worldwide. Our mission has always been to support the performance of athletes, and with an unparalleled focus on quality and craftsmanship, we’ve come to set the standard for comfort and fit in an industry all too often driven by hype. We’re incredibly proud of our history and how far we’ve come, but companies don’t thrive for over a century by being content. Whether it’s setting a new style trend, retooling our manufacturing process, or building a new state-of-the-art headquarters, we pursue innovation with a spirit of fearless independence. As the only privately held major footwear company in the world, we’re free to do things our way, pushing limits and testing boundaries as we continually reimagine what could be. After all, the status quo isn’t static. But doing things our way wouldn’t mean much if we weren’t also doing them the right way. We invest in our associates as they invest in us, and as we move forward, we make a point of giving back, supporting communities around us through ambitious philanthropic efforts and involvement programs. We are a company that cares, and our culture is one of integrity and teamwork where together we become greater than the sum of our parts.

As a longtime supporter of SquashBusters and Lawrence Community Works — along with dozens of other impactful non-profit organizations across the city — the Foundation is thrilled to see this project come to life and make a meaningful difference to the community, especially to the young people of Lawrence.

  • Universal agreement is hard to come by, except when it comes to Shohei Ohtani.

  • Meet Corie Mae Pappo. A chance encounter with a retail associate led her to the New Balance Sports Research Lab in 2012 and she’s been running (literally!) with New Balance ever since – whether through research, developing product or shaping the future of running through innovation.    Also a mom to three boys, she knows there can be pressure of feeling like you need to do everything perfectly. Her take? That’s not real life – it’s hard, messy and hectic at times, and we shouldn’t be afraid to talk about that. One day everything is going just fine and suddenly everything changes.     At just four years old, her middle son, Will, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Her family has tackled this challenge with courage and resilience. On World Diabetes Day, they launched a foundation in Will's honor: WJP T1D Foundation, and in less than a year, pulled together their first annual golf tournament, raising funds for a future where T1D is a thing of the past.     Her grace and positivity through life's ups and downs is pretty remarkable. But that’s just her– staying curious, leading by example and keeping it moving.

Our leaders travel around the world to grow our business and deepen connections with associates and teams in the communities where we work, live and play. These trips strengthen our One NB culture, foster collaboration and drive our business forward. Recently, Mathias Boenke, SVP of EMEA, visited Paris, France where he hosted a leadership offsite and made retail visits in key Paris neighborhoods La Défense, Le Marais, Forum des Halles and Champs Élysées. It was an insightful trip that brought excitement and anticipation for what the future holds at New Balance.
