About us

Since its inception 19 July 1948, Naval Beach Group TWO (NBG-2) and its component commands have participated in a variety of amphibious operations. Commander, Naval Beach Group TWO (CNBG-2) functions under two distinct missions. During amphibious assaults, he provides personnel to support and operate causeway lighterage, LCACs, LCUs, buoyant ship-to-shore bulk fuel systems, beach traffic control, and beach salvage equipment. The second mission is under the Maritime Preposition Force (MPF) concept which uses the equipment and supplies prepositioned on board forward deployed Maritime Prepositioning ships (MPS). Joining forces with the Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB), CNBG-2 forms and commands the Naval Support Element (NSE) and is airlifted into an objective area to establish camp support, conduct ship-to-shore movement, beach party operations and debarkation operations in support of the offload of each MPF ship. CNBG-2 is also responsible for conducting Amphibious Specialty Training (PHIBSPECTRA) for all US Atlantic Fleet amphibious ships. The PHIBSPECTRA Team provides in-depth training in well deck operations to prepare Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) ships for deployment to the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

On this Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we remember the extraordinary courage of the service members and civilians who faced the surprise attack on December 7, 1941. Despite devastating losses, their valor and resilience united our nation and strengthened the Navy’s resolve to achieve victory in World War II. We remain forever inspired by their sacrifice, building on their legacy with our continued commitment to service and excellence. #NeverForget #PearlHarborRemembranceDay #NavyPride #USNavy

Today, the U.S. Navy celebrates 249 years of being "America's Warfighting Navy" since its establishment on Oct. 13, 1775. With nearly 100 ships and submarines operating worldwide, our commitment to protecting the American way of life remains steadfast from the seabed to space. Let's honor our Sailors and civilians for their dedication and service to the Navy! Office of the Chief of Naval Operations #NavyBday249

  • Today was Mr. Tony Heimer’s last day at NBG2. For those that did not know Tony was the Commodore of beach group from Apr 2004 to May 2006. He worked as the PMS 317 OSR for NBG2 for 15 years after he retired (Captain Tony Heimer). Tony’s dedication to the beach group and the Navy is unwavering. Tony always had good Sea stories to share, which will be missed. Enjoy retirement, Fair Winds and Following Seas. (📸by OS1 Shelton)

  • Expeditionary Strike Group Two (ESG2) Rear Admiral David Walt visited NBG2 last week. During his visit he visited Assault Craft Unit Four (ACU4), Assault Craft Unit Two (ACU2) and Beachmaster Unit Two (BMU2). Getting a first hand look at what NBG2 brings to Amphibious ship to shore connection. RDML Walt started at ACU2 meeting sailors and learning about the Landing Craft Utility (LCU). RDML got Underway with LCU 1654 from the ACU2 piers and landed on the Mudflats located on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek (JEBLC). A Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) took the RDML off of LCU 1654 where he transferred on to a Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo Vehicle (LARC) seeing how the Beach Party Team (BPT) is used. The LARC then took him from the Mudflats to BMU2 Compound to talk with sailors before heading to NBG2 for a formal Briefing. After lunch ACU4 compound was the next stop being showed the compound and new craft Landing craft cushion (LCAC), LCAC 88 was standing by to take him out into the Chesapeake Bay. After some time LCAC 88 landed on Anzio where vehicles were waiting to take him back to ESG2. We enjoyed having the opportunity to show RDML Walt the sailors, equipment and craft used making ship to shore operations possible. How does the Marine Corps fighting force get to the beach? The old fashion way. On an Assault Craft. #usnavy #ESG2 #nbg2 #acu4 #Acu2 #BMU2 #LCAC #lcu #BPT #lvtvr #larc #tour

  • In honor of Flag Day. OLD GLORY “I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory. I fly atop the world’s tallest buildings. I stand watch in America’s halls of justice. I stand guard majestically over great institutions of learning. I stand guard with the greatest military power in the world. Look up and see me. I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice. I stand for freedom. I am confident; I am arrogant; I am proud. When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer. I bow to no one. I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped. I am loved and I am feared. I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years: Gettysburg, Shilo, Appomattox, San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome, the beaches of Normandy, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, in the Persian Gulf and a score of places long forgotten, by all but those who were there with me. I was there. I led my Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. I followed them and watched over them. They loved me. I was on a small hill in Iwo Jima. I was dirty, battle-worn and tired, but my Marines and Sailors cheered me. And I was proud. I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries that I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my own country. and when it is by those I have served in battle with, it hurts. But I shall overcome, for I am strong. I have slipped the bonds of earth and from my vantagepoint on the moon, I stand watch over the uncharted new frontiers of space. I have been silent witness to all of America’s finest hours. But my finest hour comes when I am torn in strips to be used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the field of battle - when I fly at half mast to honor my Soldiers, my Airman, my Sailors, my Marines, and - when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving mother, at the graveside of her fallen son or daughter. I am proud. My name is “Old Glory.” Long may I wave, dear God, long may I wave.” Howard Schnauber
