About us
The National Park Foundation works to protect wildlife and park lands, preserve history and culture, educate and engage youth, and connect people everywhere to the wonder of parks. We do it in collaboration with the National Park Service, the park partner community, and with the generous support of donors, without whom our work would not be possible.

President Jimmy Carter leaves behind a rich legacy forged from his lifelong commitment to the environment. We remember President Carter as one of the most effective and greatest champions of national parks of any U.S. President, and we celebrate the “man from Plains” for a life well-lived and his enduring legacy. This is a fisher, a cat-sized predator often mistaken for a rabbit, squirrel, or ferret! Native to the Cascades region, fishers were driven to near extinction by over trapping and were listed as a state endangered species in 1998. After successful reintroduction efforts helped the population recover, a comprehensive three-year study, supported by the National Park Foundation and its corporate partners, explores how these reintroduced fishers survive in their renewed habitat. https://lnkd.in/erAB7mn3 📸: NPS

Michael Halder loves the outdoors, and he has cerebral palsy. Organizations like Wilderness Inquiry help him continue exploring places like Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. https://lnkd.in/efz_yxAn “Wilderness Inquiry promotes individuals getting out in nature,” says Halder. “And over the years, I’ve seen it where they’ve developed or made adaptations to get individuals that are challenged to be able to go on a canoe trip or go kayaking in Lake Superior.” To make the beach at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore more accessible, National Park Foundation, in partnership with L.L.Bean and the Friends of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, is helping fund the new ramp from the parking area to the beach. Adaptations in national parks create opportunities for more people to see and experience these spaces rather than just hearing about them.
