Updates

  • We are excited to announce that our Hague-compliant training course for adoptive families and service providers, Intercountry Adoption Journey (IAJ), has been updated to meet the Department of State’s new requirements for training social service personnel (22 CFR 96.38), which go into effect for all new personnel beginning January 8th, 2025. Additional content added this fall will equip new employees with the knowledge they need to serve families pursuing intercountry adoption. Check out this course: https://lnkd.in/eHHxA-3v

  • 🕰️ It’s Been Ages Since… 🕰️ The adoption tax credit hasn’t been refundable in more than a decade. That means low- and middle-income adoptive families with a lower tax burden haven’t been eligible to receive a refund check on the credit in a long time! The Affordable Care Act made the credit refundable during tax years 2010 and 2011. During those years, adoptive families used the refundable credit at record rates. Ever since then, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been trying to again make it refundable. We’re hoping that’ll happen during the new Congress. What do you think? • 🤣 ‘Want me to bite on it?’ 🤣 Joshua Zhong, co-founder of CCAI, garnered the biggest laugh of the night last month during our annual Adoption Hall of Fame awards. It’s no surprise, as he and wife Lily Nie are funny, passionate, filled with humility and eager to continue helping children worldwide find their forever family. As Josh and Lily said when they accepted their award, “[T]his will serve as a daily reminder that millions of orphans around world are still trapped in institutions, poverty, hunger and wars. We pray that God will continue to use us to bring healing, hope and home to as many of these precious children as possible.” Their heart for children is contagious. We hope that you are able to take a break (slam your laptop shut!) and spend time cherishing your loved ones this weekend because that’s what life is all about. Josh and Lily would approve! 🎥: Gladney Center for Adoption #adoption #adoptionhalloffame

  • Selena Gomez’s words ring true 💍   The actress-singer announced she’s engaged! In honor of her milestone, we’re throwing it back to her The Hollywood Reporter interview from September. In the interview, the “Only Murders in the Building” actress says her medical issues prevent her from safely carrying a baby to term.   That sad news, however, is tempered by the hope she has in pursuing other avenues to motherhood, including adoption. Here’s what she says:    “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone ... [But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”   Like Selena, many adoptive parents experience infertility or infertility-adjacent medical issues before beginning their adoption journey.   In fact, more than one in three adoptive parents report they experienced issues related to infertility before turning to adoption.   Are you or someone you know on this bittersweet road? If so, consider sharing this post with them ♻️ Let them know they’re not alone and that there is still a chance, albeit different, to experience the joy of parenthood. • In honor of the ‘popular’ (eh, see what we did there? 😜) “Wicked” franchise, and its four Golden Globe nominations for the feature film adaptation, here is a quote from Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda on Broadway and was adopted as a newborn: “I often say adoption is a full-circle blessing and I truly believe it. Adopted children were not abandoned. We were chosen.” React and share if you agree ♻️ #adoption #Wicked #infantadoption #KristinChenoweth #goldenglobes
