A new study finds that Ozempic may be linked to an increased risk of a rare form of vision loss. According to the researchers from the University of Southern Denmark, Norwegian Institute of Public Health and University of Copenhagen and other institutions, diabetes patients who used Ozempic were more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with the rare condition, called NAION, than those who took another type of diabetes drug. Attorneys seeking to represent special needs sexual abuse survivors face a major challenge with clients who may not be able to paint a clear picture of the harm they suffered at the hands of an individual or the institution that facilitated it. Motley Rice attorney Alexandra Stulpin explains how these cases require a nuanced litigation approach and highlights the importance of considering and analyzing educational records as part of developing a civil sexual abuse case. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Éric Jonckheere, president of the Belgian Association of Asbestos Victims (ABEVA), who tragically lost his own battle with mesothelioma last week. Éric grew up near the Eternit asbestos-cement factory in Belgium, where he and his family were unknowingly exposed to asbestos by his father and uncle, who both worked at the factory. After losing several loved ones to mesothelioma, Éric dedicated his life to seeking justice and systemic change for victims of asbestos-related diseases. Eric's work extended far beyond Belgium, inspiring international initiatives in both Canada and the United States to support workers and victims of asbestos exposure. Among his many achievements, Éric was instrumental in creating Belgium’s nationwide Asbestos Fund in 2007 and achieving a landmark legal victory against Eternit in 2013. He helped establish compensation programs and advance legal efforts to hold those responsible for asbestos-related harm accountable. Thank you Éric. We will carry on your relentless efforts and vision for a global asbestos ban. Learn more about his enduring legacy:

The first ever Motley Rice Walking Through a Wish Wonderland event for Make-A-Wish® South Carolina brought families together to celebrate the wonderful Wish Kids of the Lowcountry who are facing difficult medical challenges. It was a night filled with special guest appearances, karaoke, arts & crafts, gifts, smiles and so much more! A grandmother shared with us that her grandson was learning that the next day whether his tumor was operable as he had as much chemo as he could receive. The fun event was particularly important for him. As he left, he said “that was awesome!” Motley Rice employees proudly collaborated to create and conduct all the activities of the evening. The event also helped raise over $12,000, which equals two wishes being granted! A special thanks to sponsors Migliori Pizza, Harborside East, Frito Lay, Gala Café and Kudzu Bakery.

Hyndman and other panelists in Queens, NY for a public discussion on toxic chemicals in hair relaxers may be harming our health on December 17 at the Queens Church of the Firstborn. This event is co-sponsored by The Links Inc. as part of our ongoing Town Hall series to raise awareness of a 2022 study linking chemical hair relaxers to an increased risk of uterine cancer and other gynecological cancers, and how victims are fighting back in federal court. A distracting chat in the cockpit contributed to the crash of Eastern Air Lines Flight 212 fifty years ago, killing 72 of the 82 passengers on board. The circumstances surrounding this tragic event pushed officials to improve aviation safety and introduce the 1981 "sterile cockpit rule” that is still in effect today. Motley Rice Attorney Jim Brauchle explains how this protocol prohibits conversations unrelated to flying below 10,000 feet. Pilots are taught to prioritize aviation, navigation and communication — in that order, says Brauchle. Learn more about the plane crash and its impacts on safety:
A fiery plane crash on 9/11/74 changed Charleston forever. 50 years later, its scars linger.
