Ariel Leilani was the first baby born at our Cherese Mari Laulhere BirthCare Center in 2025. Coming into the world weighing 7 lbs., 12 oz. at 12:01 a.m., Ariel is the second child of Elsa Ruiz and Miguel Romero. “We didn’t expect Ariel to be born on New Year’s Day since she was due on January 20, but we couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Miguel. “It’s an amazing way to kick off 2025 with our beautiful baby girl.” Having a baby is one of life’s biggest moments, and where you choose to deliver your baby can make a difference. That’s why more than 5,500 families choose our award-winning BirthCare Center each year. https://lnkd.in/gYZaWXRu

Pilots and crew members from various major airlines hand-delivered toys to patients throughout the hospital this week. Their holiday visit was made possible through Pilots For Kids, a nonprofit organization founded by airline crewmembers who wanted to address the needs of hospitalized children. "Every year, I look forward to coming because it’s a chance to bring a little joy and comfort to these kids,” shares Captain John Morgan. "Seeing their faces light up, even for a moment, reminds me why we started this partnership in the first place. It’s incredible how something as simple as a story or gift can make such a difference during a tough time.”

Earlier this year, our Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program received a grant from The Toy Foundation to help address the nationwide crisis in children's mental health. This grant allowed our Child Life team to create a pilot sensory intervention program for children in the Emergency Department experiencing sensory overstimulation. "In addition to sensory tools, this program has provided our staff with more empathy, compassion, and understanding," said Child Life Specialist Frances Viste. "We are better able to serve, work alongside, and advocate for these pediatric populations and their loved ones." Thank you to The Toy Foundation for enabling us to continue providing the best possible care.

‘Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!’ was heard throughout the halls today as Santa and the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) made surprise bedside visits. They spread holiday cheer and delivered gifts to patients, including LBFD shirts and stuffed animals. The LBFD has a decades-long tradition of supporting our patients during special events and holidays. Thank you for spreading cheer and serving our community.
