  • 👋𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 #𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟? 👉 Here's what 1000+ #AEC & #Developer teams said they needed from the industry.      We talked to A LOT of people this year leading up to the 2024 MTG Summit.      Some were industry leaders, some had a few projects under their belt.       Many were just getting started.          ❓Why does this matter❓      Want more #masstimber buildings? We need more #masstimber practitioners.      That means helping AEC & Developer teams get the resources they need to participate.      👉 We identified the most common requests by profession AND the #1 answer shared by all.         ✅ So, what do they need? ✅      Based on those 1000+ conversations, and direct feedback from 262 Summit attendees, here's what we found.       𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒   We found a fairly even mix between teams looking to get started, and teams looking to improve upon their existing experience and knowledge.       ✅ Basic information to get started, and advanced knowledge on best practices around design/detail strategies and pricing practicalities were the most common requests.       𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐑𝐒  The engineers we spoke with were the most up-to-speed profession on #masstimber.       ✅ They were interested in the latest trends, advancements and solutions to common problems. Code, costs, cores, connections, & in-depth technical content were most cited.      𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍   Most of these teams were looking at if/how to fold #masstimber into their businesses.       ✅ Market trends and state of the industry were highly referenced. Nuances of working with mass timber and best practices to be successful were a close second (particularly in housing applications).      𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐑/𝐎𝐖𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒  Public and private sector developers had similar learning objectives.      ✅ Notably but perhaps unsurprisingly, risk management (procurement & nuances) and cost/viability stood out. Housing applications were a focal point of the Summit, and these teams were highly interested in the economics of private market pro-forma driven feasibility.         ✋ But all these teams had 1 overwhelmingly common request ✋       👉 A community of like-minded people to engage with and learn from.       👉 It was the #1 response in every single category.          What's our takeaway?      Community building and engagement will help with every requested area.      Creating spaces to teach, learn and connect are important for recruiting new teams into the #masstimbermovement.      That’s what these teams are looking for.      That's what we as an industry need to support.          👉 We're giving it our best shot with this annual event, our podcast & newsletter.       If you want to be involved, visit the links on our page.      And if you couldn't make the Summit this year, check out this video recap to see what it's all about.  - Nic Wilson & Brady Potts

  • 🦅Mass Timber Magic on Falcon Lake, a beautiful refuge you want to see. ⚒️ Project: Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada   Completed in 2024, overlooking Falcon Lake, this 3,760 sq ft residential #MassTimber build leaves you speechless.   ↗️ "The design process was led by the client who worked collaboratively with Cornerstone’s design team to integrate the mass timber structure. Large, cantilevered decks and roof extensions were easily achieved with mass timber." - Cornerstone Timberframes   What Made Mass Timber The Perfect Fit? ✅ Access Challenges- Site access was challenging with assembly work restricted to the building’s footprint. ✅ Prefabrication Solutions - The use of prefabricated CLT and glulam components made this both possible and efficient. ✅ Added Bonuses - The Reynaers window wall system integrated perfectly thanks to the high accuracy of mass timber fabrication.   (Pictures from Cornerstone Timberframes) . . . . #MassTimberConstruction #Construction #BuildWithWood

  • 🏗️ Portland's #AffordableHousing Takes Charge 📝 Timberview VIII, Portland, Oregon 📰 Here's what we learned from the project teams:   This building is made of unique #wood with a view, watch it unfold:   👉🏼 The inherent lightness of mass timber, compared to concrete or steel, makes it exceptionally resilient to earthquakes.   👉🏼 The wood used in Timberview VIII, totaling 2,645 cubic meters, sequestered an estimated 2,241 metric tons of carbon and avoided 867 metric tons of emissions. Removing 657 cars from the road.   👉🏼  With 105 units available at 60% of the Area Median Income, the project offers studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with rent ranging from approximately $1,100 to $1,700 per month.   ♻️ Timberview VIII has become a symbol of positive change in Portland. As projects like Timberview VIII gain traction, they pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable future in the construction industry, inspiring architects, engineers, and developers to explore the vast possibilities of mass timber.    📰 Read the full article to see what the #AEC and mass timber teams had to say about their experience working on this magnificent project. . . . ❓ What project should we cover next? “Wind extinguishes a candle, but energizes a fire.” According to Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s theory of antifragility, the properties of certain systems, increase their capability to thrive, as a result of stressors, shocks, and volatility.   The candle is fragile, yet there is no common word for the opposite of fragile - the fire - which grows brighter with the gale. Resilient isn’t the right term, as the object or system resists shocks, but remains the same. Antifragile enters our vocabulary as the description of something that gets stronger due to applied pressure.   Your muscles, at any age, fortify if worked, and likewise atrophy sets in if not used. Likewise, the minds neural network grows with appropriate stimulation, and withers if not exercised.   The SJK ARCH, is a purposed designed, multisensorial, ontological environment, which fuses - at the mind-body intersection - the notions of: Agility - mental and physical, Stillness - psychological and physiological, Core Solidity - mind and body, and Antifragility through adaptive endurance - in the face of mind-body stressors.   The acronym ARCH, stands for Athletics, Recreation, Community, Health; a place for high performance athletes, leisurely activity, collective accomplishments, all in the pursuit of enhancing mind-body wellbeing.   Image: The SJK ARCH, Farrow Partners.
