Throughout 2024, MARTA celebrated Atlanta Civil Rights leaders and their role in our history with specially designed buses. These icons include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, Juanita Jones Abernathy, Congressman John Lewis and Lillian Miles Lewis, Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery and Evelyn Gibson Lowery, and Ambassador Andrew Young. “MARTA history is Black history,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “This yearlong celebration was an opportunity to celebrate the profound contributions the Black community has made to our transit agency, Atlanta, and the world. Our MARTA Employee Resource Groups and ATU Local 732 wrapped up the Warm the Heart/Stuff the Bus initiative last Friday, packing the MARTA holiday bus with generous donations of hats, socks, scarves, gloves, and toys to benefit four local shelters.
