“We’re humans first, professionals second.” We love this reminder from Caitlin Newcomb Ginwala, our Director of Therapy at Little Otter. Beyond the office, we are parents, siblings, caregivers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and so much more. Life’s challenges don’t spare us just because of our professional titles, and when one member of our family circle is hurting, it affects us all. If you, or someone you care about, is facing mental health challenges, know that support exists. And with Little Otter, you don’t need to wait six months to get it. To learn more about how our virtual whole-family approach improves access and supports families in real-time, you can watch the replay of our latest Little Otter Live at the link below. https://lnkd.in/dQY9vV2A

TW: This post discusses suicide. Please take care when reading. Tomorrow, we honor International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, coming together to support those touched by the profound grief of losing a loved one to suicide. Recovering from such a loss is a lifelong journey, but many resources are available to help. These include the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, The Jed Foundation (JED), National Alliance for Children's Grief (NACG), and family mental health professionals (including our team at Little Otter). While it’s difficult to acknowledge that children and teens might actually attempt to end their lives, the heartbreaking reality is that it can and does happen. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among children aged 10-14, and even kids as young as 5 can experience suicidal thoughts. At Little Otter, we are committed to early intervention and prevention, aiming to spare more families from this tragic loss. Understanding and talking openly about suicidality in young children is the first step toward providing the support they need. Our latest report provides insightful data on over 1,400 children, highlighting the urgent need for universal suicide screening and access to specialized mental health care for children. To learn more valuable insights and how Little Otter addresses this critical issue, download the full report at the link below. https://lnkd.in/eK6HC43p
