2024 was an incredible year for our mixed-income housing work. With training and brand new houses, we supported new community champions on their path to homeownership with LISC Jacksonville, we repaired homes for existing homeowners so they can remain in the neighborhood their families have called home for generations with the Historic Eastside CDC and JEA, and we improved living conditions at two apartment complexes.

“Projects like The Corner at Debs Store demonstrate the impact of strategic investment beyond charity. This is what’s possible when the heart of charity meets the intentionality of investment.” - our own Travis Williams explores the difference between charity and investment:
Opinion: Strategic investment in philanthropy works. The Corner at Debs Store shows how.

Like Joe Debs said, OutEast deserves a first-class facility with first-in-class service. Open seven days a week, with half of its employees living right in the neighborhood, The Corner at Debs is now serving OutEast with groceries and beyond.

Thanks so much to our partners at the Jacksonville Transportation Authority for investing in and around The Corner at Debs Store, with a brand new bus stop right near the store that also features an OutEast legend, a historic marker highlighting the store's history, and a branded bus promoting it throughout the urban core!

Congratulations to our COO Travis Williams for being selected in the inaugural cohort of The EdRedesign Lab Fellowship for Cradle-to-Career Partnership Leaders at Harvard Graduate School of Education! Through this program, Travis will come together with leaders from across the country to hone the skills needed to drive systemic change and build robust ecosystems in neighborhoods for children & families.
🎉 We are thrilled to celebrate three of our outstanding Network Members for being selected to join the Harvard The EdRedesign Lab's Inaugural Cohort for Cradle-to-Career Partnership Leaders! Congrats to Travis Williams of LIFT JAX, Zeevelle Nottingham-Lemon of Cherry Hill Strong, Inc, and Rahkiah B. of South City Foundation! As part of a group of 22 leaders from diverse backgrounds, they will gain invaluable skills and tools to enhance their work in improving outcomes for children and families in their communities. Children and families face deep-rooted disparities in education, health, and well-being across the U.S. Addressing these issues requires place-based partnerships that unite sectors and amplify resident voices. The Harvard EdRedesign Lab’s Fellowship equips leaders to drive change, creating pathways for young people to reach their full potential. Join us in congratulating these leaders on this incredible achievement in the comments! 👏
