As someone who started a recycling program in 7th grade cause my middle school didn’t have one and with Captain Planet as my idol, 🌎 this is a huge honor from the MRC #michiganrecyclingcoalition Michigan Recycling Coalition to acknowledge our efforts at Pingree Detroit to take “treasure” and turn it into more good stuff. I look forward to the day we no longer have a use for the word, “trash” because we’ve designed systems and products so everything becomes an input for something else. The MRC put my name on the award, but this honor belongs to our entire Pingree Detroit cooperative for our zero waste efforts, all the hustle, ingenuity, and hard work and to everyone who has supported us over the years. 24 tons of new automotive materials upcycled and diverted from landfill since 2015. Onwards and upwards! • Amazing work making these awards @architechural Salvage Warehouse - who also makes all our upcycled wood Products. • #trash #zerowaste #sustainable #circulardesign #recycle

Relationships continue to be our strongest currency.
As part of Innovation Week, we held an Outdoor Innovation Pitch right here in Marquette. The pitch featured five Michigan companies that are leading the charge in outdoor recreation. Congratulations to the winners of the Outdoor Innovation Pitch: • Grand Prize – Grounded with Sam Shapiro, $50,000 from the Michigan Outdoor Innovation Fund in investments and services • Make it in Michigan Award – Lectric Boil with Jarret Schlaff and Ryan Schlaff, $10,000 in product development services We'd like to sincerely thank all participants of the Outdoor Innovation Pitch. All five pitches left us empowered for the future of outdoor Innovation and entrepreneurship in Michigan. ⛰ 🏕 • Electric Outdoors with Josef Hjelmaker • GEKOT Robotics Inc. with Dan Champoux • SNOWBOTIX with Sasi Prabhakaran Ph.D Thanks to our pitch competition judges Michelle Erikson, Sam Lanctot, Don Manfredi, David Ricardo Medina Álvarez, and Dan Radomski. Our Founder Jarret Schlaff and Co-owner Ryan Schlaff just won the Made in Michigan award and we're really excited to be making our Lectric Boil systems in Michigan.
It was a privilege and blast pitching my start-up Lectric Boil at the #Michigan Innovate Marquette Outdoor Innovation pitch competition at Northern Michigan University recently. Still smiling after my co-owner and brother Ryan Schlaff, and I won the Made in Michigan Award along with a $10,000 prize. Lectric Boil is the world’s first compact, climate friendly, battery-powered induction stove and generator that helps campers, the military, humanitarian relief orgs, boaters, hunters, overlanders, and more, globally, who want to cook their food, recharge electronics, and boil water quickly no matter the wind or weather outside. We are so grateful for all the guidance, leadership, and technical assistance from Centrepolis Accelerator for making our MVP 1 prototype possible (where we boiled water live during the pitch and made judges coffee on our induction cooktop) and we are where we are because of our amazing engineering leadership from Ben Moes, Courtney Matheson, and Pedro Guillen and market research, customer discovery, and overall product development support from Dennis G Shaver and Dan Radomski and the entire Centrepolis Accelerator team along with strategic guidance from Shophouse Park with David Ollila. There are some amazing people doing profound work in the sustainable outdoor recreation space and I have to lift up another pitch winner Grounded led by Sam Shapiro and the talented entrepreneurs who we pitched against who each have inventions worthy of all the support, including Electric Outdoors founded by Josef Hjelmaker, SNOWBOTIX founded by Sasi Prabhakaran Ph.D, and GEKOT Robotics Inc. founded by Dan Champoux. Thanks to the judges, Innovate Marquette SmartZone and the Michigan Outdoor Fund! Making a way!
