  • Lakewood was privileged to host high school students from Staples-Motley, Pillager, Wadena, Bertha-Hewitt, and Verndale schools for last week's career day. Students had the opportunity to do some hands-on learning for a wide variety of careers available within the healthcare industry. We're so excited for the next generation of caring and passionate workers!

  • We always have a great time at Sourcewell's Young Scientist Conference, but this year our Emergency Services really took the mission of "hands-on experience" to a new level! Grateful for events like this that expose the next generation to a variety of careers!

Creating that "lightbulb" moment. Educators strive for it everywhere, to create a moment where a student has that "lightbulb" go off in their head. A moment where they realize they can do something, or pursue a study. Sourcewell just put on it's 2nd year of the Young Scientists Conference, and I love this event. Our schools are very rural, and as someone who grew up in the region, I never thought I could be a scientist growing up. This conference pulls together scientists from various trades and it's really cool because these are a lot of local speakers. Not only are we saying you could be a scientist, we are showing the students people who are working scientists in this part of the country. I think the highlight to me was Lakewood Health System's session where they had students help get someone into a backboard, load them into an ambulance, and care for them while the ambulance drives around. It was super immersive, educational, and they did a great job of getting the kids involved. So if you're a leader in any given trade or industry, how are you going to create lightbulb moments to inspire future workers?

  • One of the amazing things about our cancer care team (and patients!) at Lakewood is their resounding commitment to increase awareness and access for rural cancer patients throughout the region. Lakewood oncologist Dr. Wade Swenson and Sandra Thompson, Lakewood Oncology patient participated in this incredible event to improve the experience and outcomes for rural cancer patients in central Minnesota!

🌟 It was an honor to speak at the Relay for Life for Best of MNWest in Alexandria! The event was the largest fundraiser to date in Minnesota and the 19th largest in the country. The expanded relay, now including Douglas, Pope, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, Big Stone, Todd, Western Stearns, and Morrison Counties, shows the power of our communities coming together to fight cancer. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important cause! Together, we are making a difference. 💪 #RelayForLife #CancerAwareness #GreaterMN #CommunityStrong

We were AMAZED at the sea of orange at our GIVE ORANGE event this past Friday where sponsors and attendees helped us raise over $45,000 for our Lakewood Oncology Fund! These dollars will go directly support our patients and their families as they navigate cancer treatment at Lakewood. Special thanks to Sandra Thompson for sharing her cancer journey at Lakewood over the past year, as well as to Dr. Wade Swenson, oncology provider, and Kali Pachan, social worker. You all shared the difference Lakewood Orange makes in the lives of our patients and their families each day.
