Building a software is a science, until it’s not… When developing a software, an essential part of building is customer feedback, but that same feedback will spread us thin and at best, will send us in every direction. The hard part is, I think, discerning what comments to take into consideration and which not to. I’d say there are two fundamental elements that help in making these decisions, and thankfully they somewhat intertwine: vision and trends. First, do the requests align with our product vision? If they do, great, if they don’t, I’ll keep them in mind but won’t act on it immediately (good to keep in the back-burner to stay alert to new trends..) Secondly, are there underlying trends in what our users say? They’re usually worded differently, come out in different scenarios, but can we draw big lines from the plethora of feedback? These big lines indicate what I’d call the trends, and that, combined with alignment to our vision, is how we build our roadmap at Kaizntree.

Thanks Isabel Leeds and Emily Grace for hosting us at AB Bernstein for a founders leadership workshop with Doug Randall. Doug is an expert strategist who served as an advisor to the White House during the Obama administration and has founded multiple tech companies. My biggest takeaway from the workshop was Doug's "Theory of Winning" which essentially means articulating what success looks like for the year then aligning all your activities, resources and energy on what's actually needed to achieve that goal. (Will do my best not to blink while we're taking the photo next time!)
