Formerly NECEC, ACT is the premier voice of businesses building a world-class clean energy hub in the Northeast.
About us
ACT leads the just, equitable and rapid transition to a clean energy future and diverse climate economy. ACT is the Alliance for Climate Transition and ACT Institute. ACT helps clean energy companies start, scale and succeed with our unique business, innovation and policy leadership. We bring together business leaders and key stakeholders to engage in influential policy discussions and business initiatives while building connections that propel the clean energy industry forward. Our results-oriented team is highly skilled at turning a clear vision into reality and effectively influencing policy to build a world-class clean energy hub in the Northeast. The New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) was formed in late 2006 when leaders in the Massachusetts’ clean energy industry saw the need for a regional business association to convene clean energy stakeholders dedicated to growing the state and the region’s clean energy economy. In October 2015, reflecting our growing activities in New York State and the rapidly growing community of member companies doing business in New York and across New England, NECEC became the Northeast Clean Energy Council. In September 2024, NECEC rebranded to ACT (The Alliance for Climate Transition) to reflect our expanding member base and broader mission to transition to a diverse climate economy.

🎉 Exciting Milestone for ACT Member Commonwealth Fusion Systems 🎉 We’re thrilled to celebrate our member Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) for announcing plans to build the world’s first grid-scale nuclear fusion plant in Virginia, in partnership with Dominion Energy. This groundbreaking project will provide 400 megawatts of clean, firm power — a critical step toward decarbonizing the energy-intensive data center sector. Located near Virginia’s booming Data Center Alley, the plant represents a major leap in fusion energy development. CFS, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology spinoff backed by leading innovators like Bill Gates, is pioneering high-temperature superconducting technologies to accelerate fusion’s commercial potential. As the fusion industry continues to advance, with private investments exceeding $8 billion, CFS is leading the charge toward a carbon-free future powered by limitless fusion energy. Congratulations to CFS for setting a bold vision for the future of clean energy! 🔗 Read more about the project: https://lnkd.in/en6Kiq8j #FusionEnergy #CleanEnergyInnovation #ClimateTech #EnergyTransition #ACTLeadership #MemberSpotlight #GridModernization #Decarbonization #DataCenterEnergy #ClimateAction

🌍 Breaking the Climate Partisan Divide 🌿 Our former Bekenstein Climate Fellow Isabela Valencia, writing in collaboration with Grace Gibson-Snyder, delivers a powerful call for environmental advocates to rethink strategy: We need a broader, more inclusive climate movement that crosses political divides. Despite years of activism—from protests to policy advocacy—climate progress remains constrained by deep partisan divides. Climate change cannot be a perpetual political tug-of-war. With unified government control rarely lasting long, relying solely on one party is unsustainable. The Way Forward: 🔹 Invest in climate engagement across the political spectrum. 🔹 Support center-right organizing to counter fossil fuel influence. 🔹 Build coalitions that make climate action a shared national priority. As Isabela and Grace argue, we must expand our reach, engage beyond our comfort zones, and fight climate misinformation everywhere — not just where we expect support. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eJgs4RZd Let’s commit to building a truly inclusive, bipartisan climate movement. The stakes are too high for anything less. #ClimateAction #BipartisanSolutions #ClimateJustice #EnvironmentalAdvocacy #PolicyChange #EnergyTransition

🌍 Leading with Facts, Driving Economic Growth: The Climate Transition Imperative A recent Pew Research Center study reveals key insights into how Americans view climate change, its economic impacts, and needed policy actions. With economic concerns front and center, half of Americans remain uncertain about whether climate policies help or hurt the U.S. economy. The path forward is clear: We must center facts and highlight how climate action drives economic growth. From clean energy job creation to business incentives for carbon capture, climate policies can bolster the economy while protecting our planet. The challenge: 🔹 69% of Americans believe large corporations are doing too little on climate. 🔹 60% say state officials are falling short. The opportunity: ✅ 83% support tax credits for home energy efficiency upgrades. ✅ 79% back tax incentives for businesses investing in carbon capture tech. Americans are ready for solutions—but frustration with political gridlock and misinformation clouds progress. At ACT, we believe facts must lead the conversation to unlock the full potential of the climate economy. Together, we can: 🔋 Accelerate clean energy adoption 💰 Drive economic investment 🌿 Ensure a sustainable future Let’s rise above the noise and build a climate-forward economy grounded in innovation, truth, and opportunity. 🌎 Where Do We Go from Here on Climate? A Path for Jobs, Economy, and Resilience 💪 In a recent op-ed for the Boston Business Journal, ACT President Joe Curtatone outlines a bold vision for the U.S. climate transition, emphasizing how climate policy can drive economic growth, job creation, and national resilience. Key Takeaways: 🌱 Economic Opportunity through Climate Action: Climate policy isn’t just about emissions reduction—it’s about creating millions of high-quality jobs and revitalizing communities. ⚡ Clean Energy Industries in Focus: Investments in offshore wind (OSW), solar manufacturing, and battery storage can establish the U.S. as a global climate tech leader while securing energy independence. 🏗️ Building the Clean Energy Supply Chain: A robust U.S.-based supply chain is essential to reduce reliance on foreign production, create sustainable jobs, and strengthen local economies. 🤝 Public-Private Partnerships & Policy Support: Coordinated efforts among businesses, governments, and communities can accelerate clean energy development and unlock long-term economic potential. Why It Matters: The climate transition is not just an environmental imperative—it’s the next great economic engine for the U.S. At ACT, we are committed to building a sustainable economy that works for all Americans. Stay tuned for more updates on this topic later today, when Joe will speak at Marsh's U.S. Offshore Wind Market Day, where industry leaders will convene to discuss the market opportunities presented by the rapidly growing U.S. offshore wind industry. 📖 Read the full op-ed in the Boston Business Journal: https://lnkd.in/eQM9yCUH #ClimateEconomy #CleanEnergyJobs #OffshoreWind #SolarManufacturing #ClimateAction #EconomicGrowth #ACTClimateTransition
