Earlier this year, New Jersey Future team (JWW's backbone organization) sent out the "Primer for Mayors – Let’s Get the Lead Out of Our Drinking Water: Lead Service Line Efficiency Measures" resource via mail to mayors and municipal officials. https://lnkd.in/efBqzq23
Concerned about lead in YOUR water? So are we. 🔍 We created a Lead Primer to give your mayors and municipalities the rundown on how they can address lead pipe removal, increase water quality, and more. 🤔💧🚰 Let’s get the lead out! 👏 Lead-Free NJ Jersey Water Works

Still feeling the 🩵 love 🩵 from the Jersey Water Works Conference last Friday!!! It is always a joy to connect with my water peeps but this one is special. We come together across New Jersey from various aspects of the water sector - utilities, engineers, regulators, community outreach, philanthropy, policy wonks, etc - to talk through hot topics and how we can collaborate on innovative solutions. Highlights: 💧 NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Commissioner Shawn LaTourette provided his insights on the future of water in Jersey and the shared commitment towards problem solving that makes him hopeful 💧 I had the pleasure to MC the afternoon session where George Hawkins' keynote bought together topics of the days such as active listening, effective leadership, workforce development and building a strong community for the sustainability of the industry. 💧 Connected with the AMAZING participants of the Emerging Water Leaders of Color Leadership Circle from 2023 and 2024 that continue to inspire me and so many of us with their positive energy and impact.

EPA just released its "Water Affordability Needs Assessment" -- a report to Congress demonstrating the need for a permanent, national low-income water assistance program. Several bills have been introduced this year to do just that. (HR10150; HR10440 (sec. 301); and S3830/HR8032.) https://lnkd.in/eN57a-B7

Each member, individual and organization bring their own unique perspective and expertise to the complex problem of upgrading New Jersey’s water infrastructure and advancing green infrastructure. See what conference participants have to share!
Last Friday, I had the privilege of attending the Jersey Water Works Tenth Annual Conference, where the resounding message echoed throughout the day was "Water is Life!" Amidst recent challenges like droughts and wildfires, New Jersey residents have come to realize the true value of water in our lives. During the conference, I participated in two enlightening breakout sessions: "Advancing Green Infrastructure: Navigating NJ PACT REAL Updates" and "Enhancing Climate Resilience through Municipal Watershed Improvement Plans." Engaging with experts in green infrastructure and stormwater management provided me with invaluable insights. Exploring various green infrastructure solutions like porous asphalt, rain gardens, and underground storage systems piqued my curiosity, motivating me to delve deeper into the realm of planning and implementing green infrastructure. I am excited to enhance my knowledge through the upcoming Green Infrastructure Champions Training Program offered by Rutgers University. Here are some interesting facts that caught my attention: - New Jersey is facing a staggering 30 billion dollar stormwater challenge. - Investing in green infrastructure not only benefits the environment but also saves towns $13 in damages and cleanup costs for every dollar spent. - While green roofs may enhance aesthetics, they are heavy and can only retain about half an inch of water. - The number of new homes built in 2050 flood zones increased significantly from 2010 to 2017. - The intensity of a 100-year storm has escalated by 15%. I extend my gratitude to Richard Lawton for introducing me to this enlightening conference and providing me with the opportunity to attend. Thank you! #NJWATER24
